Replacing the big black filter filter alone won't put the air dryer back in proper operation. The dessicant cartridge must also be replaced since this is the actual element doing the 'drying'.
Anyone who doesn't drain their tanks regularly is just looking for trouble later. Those 14000lb trucks don't stoip easily Fred Flintstone style! It isn't worth killing the 4 wheeler you plow through. Japanese air dryers aren't serviceable because the Japanese manufacturer want you to replace the entire dryer instead of a cheap cartridge. I know - I work for a major Japanese manufacturing company!
