M36, M36A2 Bed.

Anyone have an extra bed? Anyone mind taking a few pics of the bed mounting on their M36 or M36A2? Comparing mounting with the M4 body of my M447C. Considering removal of the M4 van body and putting an M36 bed on the chassis.

Just out of idle curiosity why did they put a piece of wood between the frame and the bed?
Was it just to keep from having metal to metal contact?
Why not rubber, nylon or other synthetic?
Inquiring minds want to know.

I don't khow the answer but farm trucks were done the same way.

It is for frame flex and to keep it from shearing off the bolts.

Probably be easier to find one of the long 5 ton beds. They seem to be more common than M36 stuff.

Maybe someone with an M36 would want to trade for your van body? Couldn't hurt to call SECO... I don't know which is rarer, but the van body could be very desirable to someone.

M36a2

In reviewing the TM for general information on the M36A2 I am seeing here that the bed is 4 feet longer in the M36A2 truck.
If this correct?
I am looking for the inside dimension but not exact...a close measurement will be fine.
Also from the same TM the other general data reads to be that the M35A2 is 13, 530 lbs. net and the M36A2 is 15,750 lbs. net.
The total length wtih winch is 278 1/4 inches for the M35A2 and 343 1/2 inches for the M36A2. Gross weight is 23,520 lbs. for the M35A2 and 25,510 lbs. for the M36A2.
I have a friend looking to buy an M36A2 and he is comparing this to the M35A2 for cargo capability.

It's 5 -5 1/2' longer. I checked one time its like 17' or 17 1/2' long inside the bed. The rest sounds right.
