M36 rv?

Hey I have been looking at the M36 to convert to a mini RV/ travel traitor. But even once I find one and fix it up to optimum running conditions, I still have to modify it to one single interior space. I was wondering if anyone has more info on this type of modification? I want to take off the back of the cab, remove the passenger seat, and make the interior space tall enough to walk around comfortably (i.e. 7ft or so.) If you have any Idea how to pull this kind of modification off, or even just a general idea, let me know!! Thanks- KC

I've been thinking of doing something similar with my M36A2. All it takes is money. I've contacted the Alaskan Camper company and they can make a camper that telescopes
to lower profile. They have done some that are on smaller trucks; check out web site.

Thanks Orren I was looking more as a DIY project, tho. And I was more curious about the gap between the cab and the bed, and if it can be joined into one whole cab.

Only if you will keep to flat ground. The cab and bed articulate independently so if you run over something on one side only, the two could be displaced several inches from their normal position. Using a large rubber 'diaphragm' between the two is a possibility, just as is done on smaller pickup trucks and their camper shells.

Whatever you do, please take pictures and get exact information on part numbers so other will not have to re-invent the wheel.

You might consider using the sleeper off of an over the road truck.......if you cut an opening in the back of the cab the sleeper should mate to it using the gasket that SCSG-G4 referenced.
The big walk in sleepers are very roomy and many already have creature comforts installed.
