M54 top speed

As a refresh on this post, top speed, the M54 seems to be running well and idling, but my fuel economy is right around 3 MPG. I am not a hotrodder with this rig and drive conservatively.. It does seem to smoke quite a bit.

Question is it possible that the Injector Pump is timed a bit off and it is running too rich?
