I know Lee pretty well. He was at the 2004 FE gathering with his truck. I was extremely impressed with the construction and modifications. It still looks stock, but performs way better. Incredible rig!!!
I'm sure he would help anyone attempting to do the same type of work.

Hello Lee,

Is your Cummins a four cylinder Diesel? Have you ever thought of putting a 5.9 liter 6 cylinder turbo charged Cummins in the M715 instead? You'll get at least twice the horsepower and almost double the torque.

In any case, this is still a real slick looking conversion. Kudos to you on the good work. <img src="emoticons/icon_smile_thumzup.gif" alt="Thumb Up">

4cyl cummins 4bt (turbo)

i thought about ia 5.9 6bt but am glad i did not. several reasons.

1) i dont know of anyone that could fit the intercooler (two guys did it with no aftercoolers

2) you either have to do a 3" cab lift, or a springover lift. (the two guys i know did it those two ways) i cant stand the former, and the latter is unnecessary for my style of wheeling, imo

3) im already at 3780lbs on the front axle. a 6bt would push it over 4000lbs.

4) a 6bt would allow more towing, but i have yet to wish/want for more offroad ability. and i dont tow

5) the fuel milage is not possible with the 6bt.

thanks for the compliments!

LEE DO YOU THINK THE 4BT IS SMALL ENOUGH TO FIT IN THE M38 JEEP OR THE M38A1? IM JUST THINKING OF THE POSSIBLE TORQUE IN A SMALL PACKAGE. I THINK IT WOULD BE GREAT OFF-ROAD ENGINE FOR A LITE LITTLE JEEP.

there have been 4bt conversions in cj7's and wrangler YJ's. if it fits a cj7, it will fit a 5. just remember you would HAVE to do a lift.

Here in Greece cj7's were factory fitted with Isuzu 4cyl diesels. Also Mahindra, a company in India makes a replica cj3 and cj5 wich is powered by a Peugeot-Ford engine. I have a M38A1 were I use the above engine. It is not fast but it has an outstanding offroad performance.

lees truck is a really sharp truck and the work was expertly done, every detail was remarkably done and you wouldnt know that this wasnt a new vehicle that just rolled of the showroom floor.

iceman71: I hear you there! I have a 67 M725, a 68 m35a2, and 2 m715's and the only way for me to get the 715's was to tell her I would build her up one. Im building her a monster truck 715 complete with 4 wheel steer and 66x34x25's, turbo cummins or blown big block but it has to be an automatic. this way I can have more play toys to work on. so for the next 2 years or so Ill be workin and savin money to get it done.
