Steel Soldiers now has a few new forums, read more about it at: New Munitions Forums!
Thanks, clinto, I will have to look up that article. The pipeline trucks are really neat. Army Motors had a great article about them last year.
I have no intention of raping this beast, but it is going to have to be a working, and camping, truck; so the extra winch added to the top of the headache rack will have to go. It is clearly a later add-on, and inadequately engineered, so it would just rip off if I every used it. The winch is not even connect to a drive shaft anyway, nor is there a provision for one. Before you strip parts I would see if someone would swap for a standard deuce because the 756 is getting hard to find.
Thanks, Recovry4x4, for the photo of the tackle. I will have to track it all down. If the trunion is so hard to find, then hopefully someone has the specs and a machinist could make it.It is usually a long search, especially for the trunion.
No, here are 2 photos of the 3rd winchNice! By extra winch on top, are you referring to the behind cab mounted 20K winch and headache rack? That belongs there. Enjoy the LD engine, I miss the one I had.
I would be happy to post more photos, but I am not sure what people want to see closeup, so just let me know. I also do not know what resolution you want. I own a 14mega pixle DSLR, and I am a photographer, so I can make the resolution at whatever level people want. Just let me know. I made the above images 8"x at 72DPI. Is that good enough?Congrats on the acquisition, more pictures, please (and higher res if possible). My favorite deuce variant, for sure, built three different wooden beds for them over the years.
Actually, I have been an engineer for 40 years, but never came across the term 'trunion' until I started researching here about my new rig. The sad part is I know I have seen this trunion somewhere in my past, probably at a scrap yard. Now I know what to look for when I see one, so I am going to scrounge the scrap yards for one. If I cannot find it in 6 months, then I will have to order one machined.I don't think he has any intention to part this truck. The winch he wants to remove was added to the top of the headache rack. You can see it in pic 2. If he knows what a trunion is for one of these, he knows exactly what he has for a truck.
The trunion is the piece that joins the 2 gin poles together to form the A-Frame. The hoist block attaches to the bottom of the trunion. Using a clever pulley and block arrrangement, you can raise and lower the A-Frame via the mid mount winch.what is the trunion for? Nice truck!
Thanks, I saw Desertdeuce's thread on his M756A2. I sent him an email to see if he is interested in discussions and/or trades.Member desertdeuce resides in AZ and he has a nice example of the M756A2. I'm not sure if he has a trunion for his. The only one I have ever seen is the one I had for my truck. Desertdeuce hasn't been active on here in a while but it might be worth tracking him down to see what he has. It would be cool if someone could write a program to make these.
Edit, he has a trunion. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?30015-M756A2-Pipeline-Truck-Arrival&highlight=
The extra winch is definitely up for trade for the things I need, tronion, rigging and/or turboSweet, your extra winch is a Braden LU4 for a M37 or M715. Can I have it?
From what I can tell, the trunion joins the two arms of the crane together and provides a link to a pulley, through which the rear winch cable is passed.what is the trunion for? Nice truck!
I found your photos on photobucket. From examining my gin poles, and your set of photos, it looks like there might be a missing part. Here are photos of the ends of my gin polesI'm at work with no photos and locked out of photobucket. If you search photobucket recovry4x4 you should find a link. I think I have a pic of the gin poles attached to the trunion.
