M800 series with air brakes

Here is an flipped over M813 with airbrakes. I looked for the data plate to confirm the type of truck, but it was missing. Before someone says I shouldn't be showing battale damaged vehicles, it's not battle damaged. It's been flipped with a forklift.(GL in Iraq?)If anyone want a perticular angle or shot, I can go take more pictures.

That looks like it could be an M923A2. The box on the driver's side running board is definitely an A2 part and the diffs are flat on the bottom...another tell-tale sign of an A2. I will say that the fender in the first pic does look like an M809 series fender. With all the damage, it is difficult to be sure.

Those are definitely M809 series fenders. The diffs and the box on the driver's side running board are throwing me off. Could they have taken an M923A2 and mounted some sheet metal off of an M809? Not sure why the would do that. I am stumped.

I am not sure. The more I look, the more I see M809 series features, too...like the air tanks under the driver's side cab. However, on an M809, there should be a toolbox in front of the air tanks (where that box with the access panel is located).

Look at pic 11 it shows the eng side pannels and the muffler, that means its not a M939A2.
One other odd thing is the 4 air tanks.

It is in Iraq correct? Maybe a depot conversion?

It is Iraq and someone here said there were a limited number of 800 series converted to airbrakes. I can't remember who said it.

It probably just worked as well as the 900 series trucks. Ever wonder why they had to add ABS? I had a 900 sereis 5ton loose air pressure at 50mph in Korea. Talk about a wild ride when the spring brakes kicked in.. bad primamry brake valve.. luckily no one was killed or hurt.. except for the truck and a tree.

Thought about it after I had left. My battle buddy was complaining about heat or something.. it was a nice 105 today lol I will look the next time I'm out there. There are others out there with airbrakes and sitting up right.

The driver's side running board is definitely off of an M939 series truck. The axles appear to be from an M939A2 series truck. The fenders are from an M809 series truck. There are air valves behind the access panel on that box that is on the driver's side running board. Perhaps, they came as part of the conversion to air brakes. The M939 series have four air tanks, although they are on the passenger's side.

I believe that all cy 1986 and newer 800 series trucks ( new or rebuilt I don't know) had air brakes. Just read the end use identification on an air brake part on GL.

looks like a 900 to me with 809 fenders maybe. the conversion to put 939 axles and brakes on an 809 is way too much work and money. buy a 939.
