My 1977 M887 ex fire truck. i got it May of last year and just getting around to working on it. I had a fire that destroyed my other M885 parts. I removed all wiring from the interior as it was chopped up by the FD.
I picked up the red one in Gainsville,TX. The body is in good shape and the floor is solid. the floor of the bed is another story. lots of rust and will need to have a new panel welded in.
The bed is probably rusted because it was a brush truck and the pumps leaked and water sat in the bed for periods of time. That's my guess anyway. Good looking truck. You may be able to get a painless wire harness for it to rewire it? Keep us posted with lots of pictures.
I picked up a wire harness from haywire and it has the new style fuses. I was under the bed yesterday and found only 2 bolts holding the bed on. the 2 bolt were loose. None of the other bolt hole line up. the bed needs to move about 1/2 inch forward. it should not be to bad to fix.
The front bumper was cut off with a torch so I took my sawzall and grinders and cleaned them up and cutout the square tubing out. lots of work.
I took off the front wheels and the calipers. the rubber brake lines were dry rotted and calipers were frozen so I ordered new.
Hello all, it's been a while since I have been able to work on the truck. the home owners assn. has been after me to clean up and complaining about the truck. I cleaned up the property and closed in the carport. thats the way life goes.
I have a question about the rotors. I have looked at the tech manuels and did not find what I need. Do the bearings all get pressed on the rotor or do they get placed in the knuckle?
I have been busy getting a little at time done. replaced the timing chain and cover, pulled the intake manifold, cleaned and painted it, installed the front brakes, and the rear brakes and drums. next on the list is running new brake lines. looks like international cast the block for the 318. could be wrong
I was very surprised that the engine still had the poly timing gears. as you can see they were still in good shape. I have seen them in a thousand pieces all in the oil pan.
Hi, cleaned the rear bumper and painted it. I went and bought new bolts and nuts from tractor supply. In the last month I installed the rebuilt engine and bolted up the transmission. I'm still waiting for the drive shaft to come back from the driveline shop. The temps are rising but it is not too bad under the carport.
