M925A2 Trailer Made From M923A2 Truck

I found the pic below and got all excited. It is an M35A2 pulling a trailer made from an M35 chassis, but it looks pretty good with fresh matching paint. I can get an M923A2 rearward of the cab with extended frame rails. The singles would allow it to match the ride height of my M925A2. I'd fab up a tongue with lunette ring and pipe in the air brakes and electrical. I would also need to fab up some type of tongue jack, probably just do a simple hydraulic cylinder with a foot plate on the end of it and a 24V hydraulic pump that I have. Is there anything else I am not considering which would present itself as to why this would not work? 2 beds with 2 cargo covers could haul a lot of fun stuff, and look knarly doing it. It's empty weight would be more than necessary due to the axle mass, but I'm not too concerned with it unless it is at the 15,000lb "rated" limit to begin with...after%20sensient%20038.jpg

Done correctly, I don't see why it wouldn't work. There may even be a way to make the ABS work if you wanted to.

I'd say the photo is an M35 pulling a trailer made from a M35.

I think you could do the same for a 5 ton. Use a m105 heavy dual wheel jack for the front. You can also add a trolley valve and plumb from a scrapper tractor for brakes like a tractor.

The tech folks at Haldex can advise on the ABS. I suspect the control module and brain on the valve would not work for another axle but that is a holiday inn express answer....

Trailer ABS is not a show stopper at all, just an added bonus if worked. I thought your way also at first, but then once I remembered that the ABS system is only on the rear axles, and the control module located there also, it could be made to work stand alone if one wanted. Would probably need to route a speedo signal to it or other references, and it should work just fine.

I'd leave the frame rails long, and notch the horizontal rail edges so that the frame rails could be bent into an "A" touching each other at the tips. Then weld on a gusseted plate with a dropped pintle (lunette) ring, remove the intermediate prop shaft, and away we go.

May want to pull the axles, cut the shafts off the flanges, and reinstall the flanges - to reduce rotating mass. Then...away you go.

Good point. Maybe just remove the entire differential assembly "chunk", and drill a drain hole in the bottom of the diff housing, since the wheel bearings are sealed in each end of the hubs anyway (with grease and not gear oil). Could cover any openings with plates or leave them open I suppose. That would definitely help to lighten it up at least a little.

Sounds like a plan :cool: I've actually had the same type of idea rolling around in my head since I bought my truck.. My idea was a little more extreme though. It would be a powered trailer, using the 6CTA engine and trans from the A2 donor truck :twisted: That would definitely solve the issue of not having enough tongue weight... lol ;) I think it would make for a fantastic offroad trailer. A guy can dream....

Anyway, I say get to it and start building!! Just make sure to post LOTS of pics :)

True. However, you might not want to chop them up. The parts supply for these trucks won't last forever, and you may be able to sell the axles in the future for a decent sum if you no longer want the trailer.

No way. So I Google'd M923 trailer, and look what I found. Somebody that made what I wanted, on a model scale. Web site says he cut up on truck model to make the trailer. This is exactly the look I'm going for. I just personally don't like the look of a larger bed pulling a smaller bed.

This is what I made using a bolster trailer and the bed off my M927A2. It pulls like a dream but has the old air over hydraulic brakes on it. Since you have the the what's left of the other truck I'd say go for it and do it the way you describe. If the air tanks are still on the frame I'd used them as an extra source of air in case you ever have to descend a long grade.

Relax, I just thought of it today, and already have the donor truck sourced. I'm going to need a used 923 type cargo cover in camo.

Negative Ghost-Rider on the alternator delivery trailer, nobody is going to want them at the $350 price level. I currently can't get it lower unless my work let's me become the distributor and cut their $100 off the price, but I don't think that is going to happen. Conflict of Interest type of thing. Oh well.


Will trade new 130A 24V alternator for used 923 camo cover? ha ha ha

I am fixing to tackle a build of one of these types of trailers but am using dexter axles and adapters to mount super singles. Since I have 3 of these beds might as well put them to good use.

just a thought but I am parting a dolly with a nice cushioned front draw bar with a lunette that might work for you. Shipping might be an issue. Check the classifieds.
