m929 dump question

Hi all, I recently picked up a nice 1988 M929A1. Have only loaded it up about 15 times full of clay with my Komatsu PC128. Loaded her up full to the sides, which are stock, not extended and it dumped great. Kept the tail gate locked into the extender angle wings. Decided to haul a few large stumps and on one of the loads a rather large stump seemed to over control the dump body and made it go faster than the hydro system could push it. is that normal? I probally had it 3/4 way dumped and on way back down it felt like it free fell for a short distance. There are no leaks on the cylinder. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds normal. The cylinder is gravity return, and when the stump caused the cylinder to extend past the rate that it was being filled with oil, a vacuum pocket developed. On the way down, the pocket collapsed and your bed dropped.

That is what I was hoping for, I used it after and all was well. Thanks for the input guys.

One more question, if it happens again should I fully extent the piston then lower the bed?
