I have a vice for the bumper, but I have never seen a level winder on an A2, does anyone know why they were dropped when the A2s came out?

Nope, the M936A1's were the last ones spec'd with a "heavy duty" front level wind winch. The M936A2's were spec'd with a "medium duty" front winch w/o level wind. If you check out the winch tags on the A1's and A2's you will see the heavy duty and medium duty tags. Don't know the why as the winches appear identical. I have an A1 and inspected a number of the A2's.

If the winches are identical a level winder could be added? I have a M543A2 with the level winder and it is a nice addition during winching!

Yes a level wind can be added to an A2. It sure makes you wonder what the logic of omitting the level wind was for as they really enhance various angle pulls and recovering the cable.
Agree on tight recovery but if it is not a straight pull I don't pull or figure a way to block the line to center.

View attachment 533484This one is fuzzytoaster's M936A2, both his and mine came from Ft Polk, I believe both are RRAD rebuilds, Maybe the Level Winders were added during the rebuild..
Of the batch of wreckers that mine came from all of them had it. I just pulled up the A2s of that event and each one has a level winder but all were 2006 or newer rebuilds. It's been a long time since I've seen a wrecker without one to be honest but instillation may have been on the RRAD list.

I have two level winders but only one tensioner for the 20,000 lb winch and two trucks that need one? I have been looking for a year or so, the parts are not readily available.
