Well it was a drizzly day today, so I changed oil and fuel filters with my dad

Primary fuel- car quest 86792
Oil canister - car quest 85133

Now to get another weekend off I don't work and tackle the tranny and hydraulic filters, still need the oring for the hydraulic canister filter.


Yours has a canister style oil filter? Do you have some pictures of it? I guess mine must have been converted to a standard filter?

There are 2 filters for the hydraulic system and screw on type and the canister type. Have you been able to location the canister element?

Also, are you planning to use real transmission fluid? i.e. TES 295 or TES 389? I want to get that crap they use out of mine as it slips when going from 2nd to 3rd.

Yea the one on passenger side engine behind oil cooler is the canister type, my hydraulic has a spin on on the bottom of chassis and a canister on the passenger side mount to cantry crane.

The hydraulic canister is a
PTI P98-030-HG-B
I replaced it but it still leaks think I'm missing one so if you tear yours apart I really appreciate help with the orings

Yep going to switch to atf dex3.

I fully believe I have motor oil in both the tranny and hydraulic system and such so I am not using it until all is replaced appropriately.

Interesting. Mine has a spin on oil filter.

The hydraulic filter at the bottom of the chassis by the trans? That is the trans filter I think. Mine has a spin on hydraulic filter right at the reservoir.

Count your blessings I wish mine had those spin on haha

Your correct my auto correct wanted to put hydraulic, the bottom one is the Trans.

Which trans fluid are you using? I have been looking at the TES295 trans fluid but at 38 quarts that stuff will cost close to $500.

Interesting my Allison mechanic said you can either run atf dex3 or if it's severely slipping a heavy motor oil(not a long term fix just from point a to repair shop fix)

The TES389 stuff is much cheaper but needs to be changed more often. I figure its still way better than the crap uncle sam puts in them. And when they were originally built they allison called for DEXIII.

I actually 2 new (rebuilt) trannys. One I bought locally and the other I just won at auction. So I have spares if I need them but after replacing the engine I'm not ready to tackle the trans just yet. :smile:

That's what I love about farm discounts haha I'll run dex3, I don't suppose the truck will ever be pushed hard and I'm more for putting in what they recommend even if I have to stomach the price haha.

A side note that anyone can take with a grain of salt, when I changed the final fuel filter fill the with atf. I've heard many mechanics new and old due this. It greatly helps with lubricants and removes varnish on the injectors, it'll take about 500miles to clear the final filter so it dilutes quit well. Again for whatever it's worth to everyone!

Did you decide on the brand of ATF you will use?

When you did the fuel filters did you have to prime it? If so how did you do it?

I think I have some bad fuel lines as mine stalls once in awhile when I come to a stop. I replaced the short supply line (2feet?) that goes to the fuel pump as it was dry rotted. I think I need to replace the rest of them.

I haven't yet it'll be dex3 specific but probably whatever is cheapest and still meets requirment

The fuel filters are very easy to fill full and spin on, and the canister take the top off drop new one in and fill to top with fuel. Start engine let it establish prime on its own. I had to start and let it run till it dies about 4 times till it was primed and after switching to a straight 40 the engine runs +100% better

Have you driven it much yet? Some guys on here were saying there is a steep learning curve to driving the HEMTT's I did not find that to be the case at all. It takes a little bit to get used to but so does any new vehicle you drive for the first time.

I have driven mine all over different kinds of roads (highways, tight local roads, local shopping centers etc) and find it very easy to drive. The turning radius is really the only thing I found that takes a little while to learn. Other than that its fun as **** to drive.

I found that to be a false tale to, I consider my learning time quit short I'd say 25mi. And for me I can put my hemtt in almost any space the m925 can fit given the length.

My wife and I have driven ours several thousand miles, easy to learn and drive.

People may confuse it with the Mk48 which will kill you in some instances.

Do you mean literally kill you?
What do you call a sharp un-comanded turn at 60 mph in a forwarded controlled vehicle . . . death. What do you call 2 M977's or M985's involved in a rear ender with each other, kiss the crane with your face, then meet your maker.

I see in your signature you have a HEMAT trailer? How is the truck to drive with that? Do you have any pictures with it hooked up?
