Malstrom AFB - Barstow

Giving credit where credit is due, the crew at Malstrom AFB in Montana was very helpfull, however we did just buy an item that needed to be lifted with a fork lift.

Dave at Barstow has to go, if you are selling trucks, there needs to be at least a loading dock that a dead truck could be drug onto a standard semi flat deck.

When I won my M54A2 at Barstow, I gave the truck driver that was gonna pick it up for me, several different numbers for a contact at Barstow.

When he delivered it, he told me he had gotten a hold of someone other than Dave ( I can't remember who it was, Dave's assistant?) and that person had allowed the driver to use the base loading dock and even pulled my truck over to the dock and got it on the flatbed with a big forktruck.

My truck driver had dealings with Barstow before though, so he know some people there so that might have helped him a bit.

I say bypass Dave if you can.

Yes, to make this correct, I believe that it was the other fellow at Barstow that ended up helping my trucker. One M-813 truck did run and they ended up chaining up the dead truck to the live truck and driving it up on the loading dock onto a lowboy trailer.
My gripe, is that it is impossible to hire a beavertail trailer with a winch for long haul work.
It has to be expected by GL that these items will need to be loaded onto a standard 54" flat deck semi trailer.
The items that I sell on my farm, you better believe that I load my products onto the buyers trucks and do it with a smile. The customer is the guy with the money. If I took the attitude that I would not help the buyer, I would soon be out of business.

Yeah my brother in law picked up my M1008 for me and didn't even talk to Dave. It was one fo his assistants.

Thanks for the reply. I think this is one of the issues that needs to be addressed especially at Barstow. For anyone who purchases a large truck there, its almost impossible to get a drop deck or Landoll trailer that will haul long distances to come pick it up.

The loading dock needs to be available for loading these trucks. I understand that they are DRMO property but maybe you can work out an agreement to let GL use them just for load outs of large trucks?

An as for Dave who works there, I have to say his customer service skills are very non-existent.

I have used the loading docks at Santa Fe multiple times. There have been many post's regarding Dave Skophammer at Barstow, If he wanted to accomodate he would. In my dealings with him he has chosen to be difficult. He is more concerned with catering to dealers who buy there all the time, rather than the small time collector. And yes, I have addressed this via email with GL. And yes, I have witnessed a large dealer rep roaming the lot at Barstow unescorted. I find this troubling after he denied a member here access to preview a truck because quote "All the trucks here sell without preview" and "I don't have enough people to watch you, things disappear" unquote.

Bruce Bundy in Santa Fe/Kirtland AFB New Mexico goes above and beyond to help out, arrange pickups. He should be commended. Tom Armstrong at Holloman AFB New Mexico is to be commended as well. I am going to Yuma Friday, I will post my experience with the gentleman there when I get home, but so far on the phone he has been more than accomodating.

Today, July 26th 2008 I bumped into a guy from Wisconsin who was bring a Ford 6x6 up from Barstow. I asked him how he got along with Dave.
He said that Dave went out of his way to be a Royal PITA. He said that he also purchases GL from other bases and gets along there very nicely.
I still call for Dave's fireing.

LOL, still hasn't changed in Barstow, maybe they will promote Dave, on a side note, the guy in Yuma was super!!!, I showed up an hour early, 06:45ish, and he was there....wow, and as soon as I told him what I was there for he got me loaded up and on my way!, great guy!!! I don't remeber his name but he is the VERY large guy with the ponytail.....not fat large, "I could crush you " large....
