Hello all! Ive been doing research on this site for some time now all leading up to one day owning and operating my own M35A2. That day is upon me. Ive picked it out and committed. I excitedly posted the photos on my social media and low and behold I received the following picture from a friend. I was defeated to say the least. I suppose my question is has anyone recently tagged/registered a M35A2 in Maryland and if you could share your experience? Ive read and searched on here for hours and the majority of posts are from years ago and Im just not sure if Im even able to get tags with all the rules and regs in this state. Thanks in advance for any and all responses!

Interesting.

They're dead wrong about the EUC stating it's for off road only. The Hold harmless agreement is only for hmmwv's.

However based on wrong info, their conclusion is clear enough: "do not register former military vehicles."

I wish there was someone who has tagged a MV in Maryland recently to reinstill faith in ownership and operation for me. I know it doesnt require inspection for historic and already asked State Farm so thats a go. Truck supposedly has title so I suppose I will start there and hope for the best?

If it’s 20 years old register it as “historic.” Can’t be used as a daily driver, but can be for parades, having work done on it, using it to go pick up a trailer, or parts, test driving, and more, much more.

CALL the “fairy godmother department” of the MVA up in Glen Burnie and ASK to speak with “a specialist” in registering MVs and historic vehicles. I did before I bought my truck and she filled me in on the details and registration/titling was no problem.

Stay away from MVA office go to Terrys tag and title Westminster just give them title do not call any attention to it being a military vehicle they title them all the time no problem get historic tags no inspection have titled many over last 10 years

Yeah, that. I forgot to mention, I used Laurel Tag and Title just off Rte 1 and 198, 3 day return. Sweat bullets, but it worked out fine. NFW was I going to sit in the MVA or hours and hours only to talk w/ some pea-brained civil servant public education victim who knew less about Maryland law than I’d learned talking to the specialist.

Sounds good fellas. I have a tag and title place I use near my work. Ive done plenty of business with them. Cut dry and out in 15 mins. Has anyone ever transferred a title from one state to another on the MV's? Same process as a car I assume.

When I bought the truck the title was from Montana with no restrictions on it.

I started taking coffee and donuts to my local registration office. Those girls put up with anxious people all day so winding them up with caffeine and sugar seems to get me on the road quick.
Vehicle use allowance guidelines need to be much clearer because these restrictions are cramping our historical style. We all need to take notice of this so let us know how it turns out.

It seems someone from MSP sent out something that isn’t correct. First thing to remember is when dealing with “those” people at the MVA’s is don’t say anything that isn’t necessary. In Maryland to register a vehicle historic it must be at least twenty years old for 10K and under. If it is over 10K it must be at least twenty-five, thanks to a guy running a dump truck commercially on historic tags. When they ask you what it is tell them it is a Jeep truck if it is a Kaiser-Jeep. They don’t have Kaiser in the database. As already posted it is better to go to one of the tag and title places. For a few extra dollars it’s worth not having to deal with a Maryland MVA.

When trying to explain one of my deuces to the DMV clerk, I blurted out, "It's like a big pickup truck that can carry over 5000 pounds." Yes, my registration says "Body type = Pickup". YMMV.

Thats exactly what I was gonna do guys. Ill just be quiet and if they ask say its a big farm truck I wanna use on my property. Im definitely not the type to offer more info than absolutely necessary. Thanks again guys and when shes ready, Ill post my progress on the tags. Guy said the truck has "police paper" so it will title and transfer without a hitch.

One more thing to add to the discrepancy in that document is the fact that the 17-digit VIN was not mandatory until 1981. That can NOT be applied to your M35a2. Just a little thought.....

As previously posted the 17- digit VIN is a relatively new thing. When I first went to register my M54A2 I had trouble with the mental midget behind the counter who couldn’t understand that it had an 18-digit VIN. I won’t bore everyone about the conversation other than to say that she was a perfect example of why some people should not be allowed to breed.
An acquaintance of mine had an interesting time registering an OT-64. When asked what it was he told the MVA person it was a vehicle for carrying people. When asked how many his response was about fourteen. So, the MVA person said kind of like a small bus. His response was yes you could say that. So, in Maryland OT-64 are titled as small buses.
