Max tire size for stock M1008

Does anyone know what is the largest tire I can fit to a stock 1986 M1008? I need to replace the tires and would like to go larger to reduce highway rpm's and look a little nicer.

I went to 32x10.5 on my stock '86 M1009. I went with Super Swamper TSLs. I think I would have start rubbing if I went to 33's.

If you stick with a wheel in the area of 8" wide you can put on most brands of 33x12.50. If you go to a wheel about 10" wide you will need to snip a small piece off the lower front and rear front fender

Randy, keep in mind, with the stock 3.08 gears, you are already way 'overgeared' and will lose alot of power by going with bigger tires....

If I am not mistaken the M1008 runs 16 in rims not 15. also they are not as deep as the 15s. I just put on 33/12.50/15 on my M1009 with stock rims and they fit with very minor triming on the front fenders. The M008 also sits higher than the 1009 as it has 1t rating (K30 civ side). I have seen the Germans fit 35s with some triming. what I see alot is 1008 with HMMVEE tires on them with a 4 in lift. Also Swampers run bigger. I had 35s on my 96 Explorer with a TT add a leafs and 3 in Body lift( total lift 5 in). I had to do some serious triming in the front. 35 swampers are actualy 35.5 in. Most other brands 35 = 34.8. My question is can any body tell me if the stock rims for the 1009 are 15/8 or 15/10 sounds silly and where can I get my hands on one.

Stock M1009 rimes are 15X8. They were also used in the civilian market but usually eaiser just to find the military version. I'm sure someone here has one rusting away in the yard.

Thanks, searching the forums I finaly found the info. what I still cant find is correct Back spacing numbers. If I have to order rims online from the states, this info helps so I get the right rim this time.

M1008 - So stock tires are 235/85R/16 - I want to run my stock rims, I don’t want to cut my fenders, so what is the largest size I can run? I’m considering 255/85R/16 - will they fit without rubbing. I bought a set of super lugs, they rub! I don’t want to spend $2000. On a 4” lift. A new set of tires would be much cheaper.

255s here. Although I went with 8 inch wide rims for stability. Looks stockish.

I originally put Toyo Open Country MT 255/85-16 on stock wheels and they fit great. Unfortunately one of the wheels was bent so I found a set of aluminum wheels in 16x7 size (stock is 16x6.5) and they worked great as well. No rubbing whatsoever. No lift, stock suspension.

The only rubbing I had was due to DRMO massage to the left inner fender well sheet metal. I massaged it out with a block of wood and a 2x4 for leverage. No lift up front, Air Ride helpers on the rear for stock ride height.
255 85 16 Cooper Discover ST Maxx. Most aggressive tires which are quite quiet.

I have a set of 9.0x16 tires on a second set of rims for off road purposes. They measure about 35 inches tall and 9 inches wide on (i think)7 inch wide rims. I had to trim the bottom corners of the front fender in the front and rear.

Ran 255/85R16 BFGs on my former M1010. Used 7" wide Ford rims and it worked great. 33x10.50x16 is another option.

I was thinking of going with 295 75 16’s on my m1008 has anyone tried this size on a stock truck they are ever so slightly larger than the 255 85 16’s that people are saying fit no problem.

I run BFG KM2 255 85 16 on my 86 M1008 on the factory wheels with no issues. I also run the Toyo MT in the same size on my 79 K20 with no issues. They also get insane traction off road as well.

** the km2 measured out to 33.3in tall mounted and the Toyo was 33.5in tall when mounted.
