Hello and how is everyone today. I am looking to replace a bearing on my 003a alternator and would like to know what have other members done. I see the milspec bearing calls for a certain type of grease in what they use. Have any of you used something with a diffrent type of grease. I'm not going to subject the machine to things the military might encounter but what is a suitable replacement for it.
I picked up an alternator a couple of weeks ago to replace the one on an 003 that quit making power. It is hard to hear over the engine noise but it sounds like a scratching noise coming from the alternator. i have been in contact with a few members about a replacement end, and this one came up for a 100 bucks I couldn't pass it up. I have it dissasembled, I want to replace the Diodes and bearing before I put it together and install it.
Thanks metalworker393

if its actually the main generator rotor bearing your talking about, that big one thats about 2.5" dia or so. i have never seen one of those go bad and are rated for like 100,000hours of use. bearings are usually standardized and i would imagine that the bearing is marked with what it actually is. i have had my 003 rotor and bearing out as well but i certainly dont remember the bearing size or style. it would be a number like 625ZZ or something along those lines. any bearing supplier should be able to get you the bearing.

Realize that diodes are not wear items, they are either good or bad. Replacing good original diodes that have a proven 'track record' with diodes that are new, probably imported, and certainly don't have a 'track record' increases the potential for failure (infant or early life).
