MEP-016B Flexplate Stuck

Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to get to the rear main seal on the engine as it is leaking oil. I have the stator off and the 8 bolts holding the flexplate to the gen fan are out. The flexplate is stuck on the fan, and it is stuck tight. I tried prying and smacking the rotor with a deadblow hammer but not even close. Anyone had the same problem and figured out how to get it loose? I hate to drill and tap the flexplate or weld on it to mount a slide hammer since it is balanced. There seems to be no easy way to slide hammer the rotor but building some sort of slide hammer to get between the rotor and fan plus heat on the fan is my next thoughts. PB Blaster did nothing but still soaking.

heat is the key to getting apart anything frozen in place. a small mapp gas torch will do wonders.

Well, you were right on the money. I broke out the Oxy-Acetelyne (Don't have a MAPP) and carefully heated the perimeter of the aluminum fan while turning the engine over. I kept the bolts in but backed them way off. Within 2 minutes the flex plate just dropped out with the bolts holding it from hitting the floor. Didn't even have to coax it! Thanks!

Great glad it worked out for you. Everytime something feels a little too snug i instantly grab my little torch. Saves alot if trouble and twisted off bolt heads
