I would start with the CB2. It's easy. Four mounting screws, if they are there. Six nuts on the load wires. The C-Plug. It's out.
So I pulled it and opened it up, one of the two microswitches is stuck down, and there is definitely some corrosion. the three contact points on the top are not all capable of contacting at the same time, look like they have arced a bit. Can I find a new one somewhere? I can clean it up but not exactly sure what its supposed to look like. I see a couple on ebay but I don't think they are the right one.

Sure. Look up the part number and NSN in the TM, plug it in your browser. See what comes up. Post your results here, if, or if you have no problems.

When the load contacts are arced a lot, its a sure sign that the set was:

1. Turned off, before CB2 was opened.
2. Had a lot of failures under load.
3. Had problems opening and closing due to corrosion.

The inside is corroded I ended up snapping off several bolts taking it apart, and there was definitely arcing going on inside.

So the numbers on the side of the CB2 are
JCG-6001A
current amp- 350/POLE
FREQ Hz - 50/60/400
CONTACTS - 3PST NO
OPERATING VOLTS - 28 VDC
MAIN CONTACTS VOLTAGE VAC - 120/208 -240/416
MFG DATE 49/05

THE NSN number that I came up with is
5945-00-007-1147
Looks like there is one on eBay but leery about buying something that isn't tested.

I searched the forums and found where you replied to a fellow member stating that this part number is interchangeable with several others.
5945-01-165-1065
5945-00-007-1147

5945-00-007-1147 was not first generation NSN, but from the late 60's in any case. The rest of the NSN's are all good numbers for this part.

5945-01-021-2898 EDIT!!!!!!!!!!! New NSN

Below is a list of part numbers that all would work also. To the right is the cage code. Thats the name of who supplied it to the gov. I would also try each of them to see if you can find it cheaper.

can I use a surface mount 75 amp breaker to replace the push pull that feeds the panel? (Why not. But 75 amp is a little big. Its suposed to be 15 Amp. if I remember right. )

I drink GREAT German and Czech beer. So the mass produced beers are what we call cheap beer, even if the price is high. Not to worry. Unless you are coming over here, its not going to be a problem. :) Postage is a Killer!!
yeah but its pretty amazing what can be delivered locally. I have read through a lot of peoples posts about problems they are having and you are a Huge resource. should be celebrated.

took a couple of years of German in high school... a long time ago... Looks like a good beer..:)

I received the new CB and installed it.
Started the unit and it now runs for a second and the circuit breaker pops. I turned the battle short on and flipped the switch to run. I can hear the fuel pump run and then about 10 seconds the circuit breaker pops, if I hit the circuit breaker switch I can hear it click and close. and by circuit breaker I mean the 7.5 amp push-pull one that I can't pull but apparently It works. guess I'm chasing the next step.
When I disconnected the wiring I labeled and ziptied the small wires to the large wires and labeled and took pictures. before during and after. Dont think I messed anything up there.

Pull the wires out of the two Electric Fuel pumps and try and start the set. They go bad , and the CB1, (7.5 amp) should pop. That is the first place I would start. What ever is causing the short, is something that is needed in the run position.

the machine will start and run. just not very long. and then the breaker pops. if its running would suggest its not the fuel pump?
