Why not replace the handle on the throttle adjustment with a sprocket and use a stepper motor to turn the sprocket on the existing adjuster instead of hooking the motor directly to the arm? That would require much less torque, especially if combined with some gear reduction.

All,

I have come across a possible solution to this that may already exist. I came across a video on youtube which shows the installation of an autostart module and he was utilizing a generac electronic governor to control the frequency on an MEP-005a. The youtube video is located here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yAix1CNYUo&t=68s).

What I have been able to find on the electronic governor is located at the links below:

Instructions:

Controller:

Stepper Motor:

Hope this helps.

All,

I came across a youtube video showing a gentlemen using the Inova auto-start board on his MEP-005a and he was also using a [FONT=&quot]Generac Governor kit to regulate the frequency on the -005a as well.

Let me know if you are able to get this to work for your unit. Seems like a pretty cheap and simple solution.

Dear Fellow Steelsoldiers,

Because of two other major projects we started in 2015 we had to put this governor control on hold for the moment. We have the correct stepper motor selected and designed the mounting plate for same to be screwed directly to the governor assembly on the 802A/803A. So far so good.
However, in late 2015 we were also informed that the fully enclosed Power Stage to drive the Step Motor (24 Volt 7 Amps/Phase) which could handle those currents and Voltages was discontinued by ST Micro Electronics and all remaining USA Inventory had been sold to a Chinese Distributor in Mainland China. We purchased two of those modules from China to verify authenticity, of one checked out OK and the other one was a clone.
This was the point were we had to stop for the moment as we have to design and built now the encapsulated Power Stage here as well besides the actual micro-controller based control and regulatory circuit.

We do not use or procure US Products through Chinese Channels, since we are a Defense Contractor. Our CAGE # is
6ZJM5

Any Product manufactured by INOVA HIGHTECH LTD. is made in the USA to meet and exceed any MIL STD's as those Products/Kits are also purchased by the US Military and other defense contractors.

So, any Governor Control we may release for procurement/sales will meet any and all MIL-STD's as required.

[The best eta would be by the end of 2019 with a retail price of app US$ 1,489.96 for this Governor Kit

Thank you again for your interest.
Please contact us via our website if you have any further questions or want to discuss placing a pre-order.

Sincerely yours

Peter E. Albrecht

I have used several of Peters auto start kits as well 2 of the auto transfer kits using simple contactors, Peter is fun and very through to work with, I very recently set up an 803 for a local FD using both auto start/transfer kits .. it all works flawlessly.. As it is now in the MEP lineup, electronic freq control starts with the 804"s and higher. In the FD effort, I asked the "chief" how he felt about not having precise control and it's possible effects and including a review of the stations equipment and his decision made good sense, simply no need to get worked up not having more precise control. And I agreed, initially I had concern for the large 60" 4k TV and the various computers being sensitive about FREQ control. It just was not warranted, yes while a nice feature and one we more often take for granted, electronic gov freq control is really not crucial.
My background and experience working with the 802/803 series is my first experience to go without good control especially in a home environments. I feel its just not worth the extra effort . The 802/803 filsl a good void for a wide range of users and with the good advancement in electronics personal and professional use intended, your left with core equipment powering needs, water heater, HVAC cooking and lighting and a butt load of battery charging equipment I think it is just not worth the effort as well expense. your mileage may vary.. mac/mc

Partner, you need to start a thread of your own to get help. No one who might be able to help you, will know that you need help, because this thread is titled Auto Freq control, or some such thing. If you need help starting a thread of your own, say something. we can walk you through that. Pictures would help when you post your new thread.

I purchased a cummins branded commercial gen for the sole reason of it being the same DN4M engine that is in our 803s. Its rated 16kw, non turbo, electronic governor control.

I will be reverse engineering it, getting part numbers, etc for the sole purpose of throwing up on the forums here. Still waiting on transport but I am pretty excited about this find.
