During the recent storms that came through the Southeast we lost power for over 8 hours. The MEP003A fired right up and provided power for the whole house again. This genset was the best investment I've made for military surplus. I was very lucky because the day before the storms hit, I tried to start the engine - no go. The Exide Orbital batteries had died even though they had started the engine easily two weeks prior. The batteries lasted 10 years and 4 months as I installed them in August 2009 when I picked up the genset at Fort Jackson. I always keep battery tenders hooked up. Ten years service is very good in my opinion. I needed batteries quick so I settled on Red Top Optimas from O'Reilly's with a 10% Veterans discount. We'll see how they hold up.

I've tried all my life to relate battery brand and warranty to actual life, and I've failed. I have a pair of Walmart batteries in my MEP-003. They're 7-1/2 years old and still crank the engine fine. I don't keep them on a charger of any kind, I just run the generator about monthly.
