Pick a nice warm dry week end and drop the pan. Pull the valve covers. I think you will find the culprit with some careful observation and close attention Good luck. Let us know your results. We are all going there some day !

Got to take the block to get hot boxed. The metal shavings are everywhere. Also need bearings. Tear down almost complete. Any special tools any one can think of?

A good torque wrench that can do in lbs, another good one that does ft lbs.
Piston ring compressor
Do the rear main seal housing modification, if not already done (drill two holes)
Cylinder head nut tool (SnapOn M 4276A rather than the military original that likes to snap off (ha ha) at torques over 130 ft lbs)
Plastigage for the cam shaft bearings unless you replace anyway
Upgraded 12 point rod bolts (unless already installed; your pic suggests they might be)
Upgraded ARB head studs (now is the time....)
