You will always get better wear from the Goodyear but better traction from the XML off road. The larger the gap between trad blocks the faster it will wear on pavement due to cupping and such.

Can't tell from the picture, but I have had tires get water into the steel belts and then rust inside. I noticed a bit of rust showing on the outside and shortly after they gave up. Also, I noticed them being either out of round or out of balance, so was going slow (rear of my suburban). If one is paying attention, I think most tire problems give you some warning.
