MRAP bumpers....who's using one?

One could get one heck of a sun tan standing within a few hundred feet of this monster. Is the light adjustable and does it have a flicker mode? If so, what is the flicker rate in Hz? I have a shoulder mounted one that runs for 20-minutes off a tactical vest and recharges on the standard NATO plug. I would not mind having one of these.

Yeah, I like the style of yours alot. I have 6 bumpers coming from a lot I won on a big site...I bought them as a pig in a poke, but they look like the MAXXPRO...wont know till fastenal calls me...I know they are stamped but they will also be lighter. I wouldn't mind one of each. I have a set of tow eyes for the maxxpro too...

Here you go Scuba...an MRAP bumper guide.

Let's start with the Maxxpro. Here's a side shot to show why I don't like this one. It's just stamped steel so basically a bumper. They tow eyes are bolted to the frame and won't come with the bumper. Same construction as most MV factory bumpers. I've only seen a couple of these for sale. You'll just get a stamped steel bumper without tow eyes, lights, or guards.

Any of the bumpers from BAE are built like the truck they were mounted on. They are solid anD built to survive a explosion. I only ask mine to survive trees though. All of the BAE variant bumpers were, or are, currently for sale. Several people on here have mounted the bumper Suprman has. It's a nice bumper.

The light does not appear to flicker. It's a xenon short arc. Makes a pencil beam you can adjust somewhat via control box switch though.

The light was used on Sheridan tanks. The previous tank used a VSS1 which is twice as bright but really big and heavy and takes 100a to run. I dont think it has as tight of a beam as the VSS3 though. The 3 is one person manageable the light itself is around 65lbs. the control box and interconnect cable arent heavy. I have a bench power supply that can do 65 amps at 28 volts that runs the light well if I dont want to hook up to a truck. There are handheld xenon arc flashlights available also. I have the Maxabeam it works pretty well. Its around 1/10th of of VSS3.

I did pretty goodlast night at sounding like I was downing the Maxxpro bumper since I didn't elaborate much. The Maxxpro is actually my favorite of the MRAPs. The 14 hr. work days this weekend got my head spinning. They are fine bumpers but I personally needed one to run over trees...not small trees either. It was more of an opinion based on my needs, which doesn't necessarily coincide with others needs.

I've stored most of the pictures I've run across where people added MRAP bumpers to M939s. I've also got some that weren't from MRAPs. If your looking for ideas I can post them up. What vehicle were you looking to put this on?

You know, I do "need" one of them lights, but I bets a little rich for my blood. When I first saw the beam shot, I pictured myself doing this...

After modifying and installing the MRAP bumper, I obtained a MRAP light kit. I initially installed the light bar on top of the winch but then acquired a level wind for the winch. Because of that, I moved the light bar to the top of the bumper and bent some tubing for protection.

The bumpers I bought sight-unseen showed up. To my surprise they are aluminum! NSN 2540-01-565-3886 says they were from OSHKOSH but parttarget gave me nothing else....

They have Truck Lite RCL sized light pockets cut in the face of them with supporting bracketry behind, cut-outs for the bolt-on tow-eyes, cut out for IR light. To me, they seem to light duty for a combat vehicle, but for the life of me, i'm not sure what they would put them on...Will get picks up later.

I like how you kept it low and clean. I will have to do something on mine as well. I've got a second fairlead on the way, to be able to do some trick winch rigging, and will need to protect it.

From your description it sounds like a bumper from an Oshkosh MTVR 7 ton. Not sure if the MTVR bumpers are aluminum but everything else fits. Standing by for pictures...
