Does anyone have an engine ECM available for an MTVR with Cat C-12? Or know which one it uses?

Cat 226-7469. Same 24v ecm that can be used on the c15 engine in the HET and HEMTTs.

What is your engine serial number? Should have a KRA prefix

Yes. Sorry the C12s have the list of prefixes below. The ecm number i came up with is from the parts TM.

I was thinking a c15 for some reason on the prefixes ,that would make that 7ton roll then

Is your truck missing one or do you have a no start condition? I just sent my ecm off to be rebuilt or replaced. Just curious to see if you're have the same problems as me.

Bought as a non runner. It came with it removed in the cab. There was a piece of tape on the hood labeled “Bad ECM”.

They use a 70 pin ecm. Its s slim chance that you'll fine a ecm for the 9sm engine. You'll probably have to buy a 70 pin and have it flashed for your engine. Oerhave it repaired like Efituned did.

A little bit off topic but what happened to all the other non runners that I assume were purchased as parts trucks? Someone should have a non runner that they could sell the parts off of.

I was wondering the same, not many parts available right now. Maybe they are still waiting on EUCs

Check goecm.com before you spend a bunch on an ecm that may be junk.
That's where I sent my ecm. I received a call from them earlier today saying that my ecm wasn't repairable, due to a bad microprocessor. They were one of the few that didn't charge a diagnostic fee.

Here's some more information I gathered. I spent almost two weeks calling a bunch of different ecm repair places. I talked to some knowledgeable folks. Basically the parts needed to repair these ecm's are unavailable. If one is being repaired they are doing so with used parts from another ecm. If, like in my case the processor is bad, they will not repair. I was told that the voltage regulator providing injector pulse will spike to ~200v arcing on the processor or things by it. So the options are to buy new or used ecm, but to skip the middle man selling a "rebuilt" ecm that is really spray painted used working unit.

Almost any 70pin ecm will work, however there are some differences. I know some of you have CAT ET, if you can make a copy of the oem MTVR program that would help some of us when buying a blank ecm. We could send them that file or the parameters needed to flash the replacement ecm.

I wonder if the microprocessor is really not available. I know many places to get old outdated parts and my brother is an electrical engineer at Texas Instruments. Well, he was until he retired. I bet we could find the part.

It may be an issue of not being able to replace the processor. It is probably surface mounted and if it is tight in there, then it is very hard to get the old one out, plus resoldering a surface mount part in is VERY difficult. I have done it with 12 pin chips but processors have hundreds of pins.

I like your idea of making a copy of the firmware for the ECM. It should be saved someplace where we could download it when needed. It is not a question of if we need it but when we will need it. Each of our trucks may be good for now, but sooner or later every ECM is going to fail.

Btw, thought id add that the part number for the ECM is 348-2377. Im having issues w my MTVR, 03 Mk25, I think the ecm has gone out... so have been researching this subject a lot over past few days.

Took me a while to figure out correct ecm part #... which turns out to be printed on side of it (in my defense, i SAW that very early on... but a little bit of dirt / tiny dab of overspray paint made it look like "248-2377"... which would explain why i couldnt find anything useful on it.

Cat parts online (which i use A LOT when researching parts for the old 7ton / cats in general), shows multiple other part #s too.. . Mostly in their rebuilt/reman part series...

Does anyone know what version of Cat ET works w mtvrs? I need to get a copy, so i can read/scan/reflash my MTVR... 2019c is the version i was looking at, and it looked like a good program for other trucks i might work on, (civilian on the road trucks that are a bit older, not, say offroad vehicles, earthmoving equipment, etc). Ive HEARD mentioned that military trucks need a different version, like 2020A... but the source isnt one i trust 100%, more like flip of the coin to be honest.

I don't have my laptop with me so I don't know what version I have but I doubt you need a 2020 version to access a 2003 truck. Also, you will need a password generator to reflash.

I should have worded my question just a bit differently, I'm less concerned with the number of the version, and more with the last letter. In my research on this, it seems like "A" suffix cat ET is for offroad equipment (earthmovers and such), I think maybe agricultural too, while "C" is for roadgoing vehicles / (mostly trucks... vocational, over the road, etc, also ambulances, RVs, etc)

I was going to get 2019C because it felt like that was the best fit for the other vehicles I might work on, and would cover a lot of newer vehicles, but I've heard that the military trucks need an A version... (I just happened to see someone mention they had 2020A available). Which, I can see the argument there, it seems like the military trucks are considered to be offroad vehicles in many ways

I just wanted to make sure I got right version of ET for my MTVR. I've heard people mention that having more than one version of cat ET on a laptop doesn't work very well, they tend to fight each other. How true that is, I dunno, but right now I just want the damn thing to work with my truck... :) (if I have to use two versions of ET, one for on the road trucks, the other for my MTVR, I could do that, i have more than one laptop, but one laptop is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay nicer than the others so it will get the primary use version... be nice if I only have to have one version though)

Anyways, be really curious to hear what version you find you have on your laptop when you get a chance to look :)

Well, have cat et now, and a comm adapter 3 (CA3). Took some hassle getting everything installed / operational. Had big problem with connector adapter plug that goes between the CA3 cat 9pin and the j1939 plug, first one i got just DID NOT WORK (was cheap one i got off amazon, partly bc it would arrive faster).

Was starting to pull my hair out a bit over that... but got 2nd adapter from DieselLaptops, and that one worked great, got it where my computer would communicate w the CA3. And CA3 would communicate a little bit w the ECM... would at least show serial # and things like that. But overall ecm just doesnt want to work. Think im going to send ecm off to goecm.com to be checked out / repaired if possible. I think ecm is just fried inside basically. Hopefully repairable...

I would love a copy of the 505hp flash file if someone could send me one / make available on dropbox. The 530 rwhp flash file sounds great, i tried reaching out for copy of that, never heard back.

Id like to have those flash files at least on hand so when i finally get a functional ecm i could reflash if i wanted.... (tho, with as much "fun" as ive had so far, i might just be happy with a functioning stock tune ecm for a while)


As a sidenote, i bought a jump harness so i could connect CA3 directly to ecm & power w separate battery, just to eliminate possibility ecm was fine and my crank no start issues were due to wiring on the truck side. I -think- ive narrowed it down to it just being an ecm issue. So slow progress but some progress...

2019A works for the FMTV and should for the MTVR. As long as the program is more up to date than the flash file (rule of thumb) you're in good shape. Odds are the specific flash files for our trucks haven't received updates in many years.

GoECM checked out my old ecm, said it was fried / unrepairable. Said it wouldnt communicate w their tool, they opened up and found bad processor, maybe some other things.

I asked them about getting rebuilt one, they said no, didnt have one. They showed several compatible part#s as being in stock (like 10R-3571, i think 348-2377, etc... part #s cat shows as direct fit / direct replacement...). I asked about those. They said wont work. I said they should work, just need to be reprogrammed to work... they said nope, just not possible... said mine was an "industrial application" that "they dont usually work on". Which is weird since i called them before sending my ecm in, gave them serial number, just to confirm they worked with them.

And they had my ecm for 9 days before hearing from them (and i had to call in and ask about it before they did anything with it). Anyways, at least they checked it out for free.... i didnt want to try to insist on them reprogramming another ecm to work... bc if it didnt work in my hands, be easy for them to say "sorry, but we told u it wouldnt work" and deny any return / warranty. Ive heard good things about their customer service, maybe i just got the random bad experience that fell thru the cracks


ANYWAYS!!

Just received new ecm for my truck (brand new one, blank, from totally different supplier). Arrived a few minutes ago. Will be giving it a go programming with cat ET tonight / this weekend. Should be an adventure (read/watched a lot of videos/posts online about how to do it... but i can see a 1000x ways to have issue, esp first time... and i know that its possible i could get perfect ecm put in, truck still not start if i still have problem somewhere else too... just a whole lot of potential pitfalls).

Will keep ya folks posted on how things go

EDITED TO ADD - this is a new ecm from cat, factory sealed in box, from someone who sells cat parts on ebay (im guessing they get overstocks on items/buy out dealer inventory when closing, have a lot of cat stuff, but is random scattering of various things...lots of feedback though (2500), all very positive so thats very good thing). Got for a "reasonable price"... lot less then cat is asking for directly. Didnt go w any of the chinese options out there (see lots advertised, but whether they are truly new or just rebuilt, dont know, thats a road im not going down....
