MTVR up close

I'm sure that some do get hurt getting in and out...but that's a really easy issue to solve, really easy. I think that the point is how incredible the truck is over all. It's certainly a terrific advancement over the 5 tons that we have the privilege of owning today. I like it...quite a lot actually...it's rather amazing and yanno, it looks good too [thumbzup]

I think it's classified as a 7 or 7-1/2 ton truck, wonder if they sell those commecially also with all the off-the-shelf parts in the engine and crew compartments.....

It was originally rated for 7.5 tons when it was in the developement stages. However, the TM states it is a 7.1 ton truck now.

Love the details on the stowage boxes also being steps and the mount for the vice having a pin to swing it out for access or stow it away. Very fancy.

I like the idea for the stowage of the fuel cans under the bed that way too.

We had them in the seabees also, but what a PITA it was to get up in the 50 cal. ring mount with your body armor and 782 gear. Fun trucks to drive !

They did a bunch of that in WW2 and it seems the idea is starting to catch on again.
They are probably working on another monster computer program that includes the location of the stowage boxes, so that it can be specified by the numbers, like so many other things these days.....kind of like the maximum permitted energy input to the driver's H-point as was noted in the FMTV thread the other day.....(barfing smilie here)

Here are few pics of one seen in Times Square. Wife & I went for our honeymoon(edit: 2 year anniversary, good thing she does not read this 8) ) in 2005. The first time we saw it was when it was driving through traffic & I got one good shot. We came back the next day & it was parked in front of the recruiting station that got bombed a few weeks ago. I am 5'7" so this can give some perspective of how big it is.

I have been wanting a newer style fitted tarp for my ISO bed M813A1 (15' bed). I tried and found that the one for the 14' bed just won't work since the tarp is actually 13.5' long and the bow points were in the wrong place. And by tried, I mean dragged the tarp up there and pulled and grunted and swore. I used all my best words, but it still wouldn't fit.

Thinks me "Hmmm, that MTVR bed looks almost the same, same number of bows, maybe their tarp will fit!". Well, my local Marine reserve unit finally got an MTVR, which I promptly measured. No dice, that bed is 14' long and though the first two stake pockets are the same distance apart as the 813, it diverges from there, up to 16"! So, if anyone else was thinking about this....
The tarp search continues, looks like I am going to have to modify one. :(

Hey yall had know idea u were all interested in the MTVRS i see these things every day they are a huge staple at the shop and not mention we are next to one of the biggest maintence shops where these get worked on if yall want more pics i can surely getem for ya [thumbzup] just let me know i see Wreckers Dump trucks also what we call armadillos troop carriers I got it made i get to drive these things in out of the booth all push button awesome truck defintely get guts

I can see it now the first mtvr to show up on gsa or gl thats gonna be one heck of a bidding war lol

Those trucks are huge no doupt. They have many really cool options.. i loved them till i seen one on an articulation ramp on you tube......It went up like two ft....weak.Big tires and power is great but if you cant keep the tires on the ground they are worthless... i'd rather have my deuce and be able to max out the ramp.the idea of having to work on one of those in the field makes me say another prayer for our troops all over again ...The way they are built looks like they let mercedes and saab get together and figure out what would be the best way to hide the engine and trans from the guys who have to work on them.....what happened to the k.i.s.s system?How big is the convoy that carries all the special tools needed to fix one of them
