Got a report from 1SG Gifford this afternoon and they made Dawson creek. He did run out of fuel about 5 miles outside of town, but had extra on board. He found out that his 43 CCKW pulling a Ben Hur trailer will go 236 miles on a tank of fuel. Last night they had some rain and his quarters that he built in the bed of the truck faired well.

This next single photo shows the group headed to a local town to display the toys for their 100th anniversary. It is taken from close to the back of the unit as they round a corner heading into the prairies. The organization this takes is unbelievable and a huge credit goes out to those who are working together to make this happen.

I recently received a PDF of the proposed schedule of movement from the Alaska DOT. They've sent it out with the weekly "navigator" email to warn travelers.

Best of luck for everyone that is leaving Dawson on Saturday morning and making the drive. Looks like it will be a great run.

The final show

The day before first gear the MVPA put on an impressive display with speeches, Government recognition and support for the efforts Private collectors go through to preserve history.

The jeeps, CCKWs, Deuces and other units were well shown with laminated description sheet, flags and original gear. Each member proudly and loudly wore their MVPA gear and looked as professional as any organization I have seen.

Serious convoy preparation with signage, drivers briefings and arrangements for flag-persons ready for the departure from the pre-flight party area and while crossing traffic at the campground.

These guys operate at a high level of showmanship.

Alaska Ready

With each unit responsible for it's own maintenance, trailers were loaded with all the tools needed for oil changes, tire repair, filter swaps and so many other things.

Very innovative combinations.......

2012 Convoy Videos

Here are two videos of a few MV's returning to the campground after the Aug 3rd opening ceremonies. A flag-person was posted so the Steel Soldiers could easily clear the 2 lane highway.

The campground was located next to a very historic site and the information is included in the picture below, if you can read through the crap.

Enjoy,
