My 1943 Willys MB

The attached photos show my 3 and a half year progress on my 43 Willys MB.The blue jeep is as purchased in August 09,the chassis picture is from 11 and the red body tub pictures are from this past Christmas.It took from Sept till December to get my body kit here from the Phillipines.The reason for the body kit is that after skinning the added sheet metal off the original body ,the tub was badly rusted out.I am not a welder or body worker so the kit was the easiest way.The motor luckily ran when I bought it ,has good compression and burns no oil.Hope to have it mainly completed by August of this year.Thanks for looking.

Your project looks great. Were you satisfied with the fit and finish of the replacement tub? Does it seem to be as heavy a gauge metal as the original? Was there much drilling and fitting in order to fit the tub on your frame?

Tigger,I call that my substitue standard fuel tank,Ha Ha! Greg,the pictures are of my trial fit.The only thing holding it in place is the fenders and grille.The sheet metal appears to be the same thickness as what is left of my old tub.Fit to the frame appears to be good.I have yet to mark and drill the tub mounting holes.I believe in the old saying measure twice ,drill once.Thanks all for the comments.

Decided to post some recent progress pics of my MB.

A Long Over Due Update To This Thread

These are pictures of my 43 MB after I applied my markings this past weekend. I purchased a stencil kit from Rick Larsen with markings for my late fathers WW2 unit. He served with the 103rd Infantry Division (the Cactus Patch division), 384th Field Artillery battalion (M1A1 155mm towed howitzers) C battery. It took me 12 hours total to apply the markings with most of this aligning and then masking off the stencils. Actually very little time painting. I painted all the markings with only one can of Rustoleum spray paint. After 5 years I am getting very close to done.

Nice looking Jeep! My Grandfather was a 1stSgt in the 103rd Cactus division!

I'm with you bikeman. I love my M38 but the history of MB appeals to me. I manage to keep my addiction to green iron and to Jeeps in check, but the addiction to green Jeeps is very difficult to control.

Thanks for the comments.Ryan77 do you know what unit your grandfather was in in the 103rd? I have a 103rd division history book published in 1996 by Turner Publishing that might mention his name. If you could PM me his name I will look it up. Put 103rd in the subject line.

I dont recall of hand! My dad has a year book from 1945 that was given to his unit that has maps and pics of all the battles etc. I will find out and let you know.

Good job on saving a war horse from the 4x4 crowd . I had a Willys MB that had a CJ top grafted onto it complete with 2x4 spacers to make it fit. I sold her to a man who restored her back to GI condition. Glad another MB was saved. Mark
