My Engine Smoked....

Last night I was riding back home and about 5 miles from destination I started to smell something burnt, but having a old beat up truck in front of me I believed (of course) it has to be this guy. By the tame I got home I realized.... ohh... ohhh... the truck is gone and the smell is following me. I stopped the truck and opened the hood, Here is the Video:

Maybe some of you badass wizards can tell what the problem is by the smell of the smoke.....? (J/K)

Well, my Smell-A- Vision app is not working. After the dramamine tab I popped... my guess, maybe the air compressor pump was on and no fluid / refrigerant / oil in the systems. Second guessing...Hope it wasn't a starter stuck / engaged. Maybe the wire harness on that side. Should know when the sun comes up.

It's just a guess. Still dizzy, CAMO

allora..... A/C has not worked in a while so it was off, the starter works fine, I'll look at the harnesses from underneath.

Maybe something in the belt system, AC comp, idler etc.
Looks like maybe the tensioner or compressor.

No it has bearings that can go out, when the compressor is not running it acts like an idler pulley.

so the only way to check all the pulleys out, including the compressor one, would be to remove the belt and spin each one by hand...? would or should all of them turn freely...?

Yes and look for excessive play also.

Actually that would help. What did it smell like? Hot oil/grease, burning rubber, pungent acrid, antifreeze, plastic?

Could be something simply dripping on the exhaust manifold, or worse. I had a A/C compressor seize up, and smoke my compressor clutch and belt. But that would only happen if the A/C is running.

The AC pulley can seize with or without the compressor running

Your MTV camera skills left me dizzy and unable to identify exactly what’s going on. When you use a camera, you need to focus on one area and then move extremely slowly over the next 30 seconds in order to let people see what’s going on.

Anything from the air conditioning compressor to a leaking valve cover to a leaking exhaust manifold to a piece of rubber, pressing on the engine in that area could be the problem and unfortunately, your camera skills made everything confusing. Could also be something leading to the EGR.
