It is definitely pretty wood... Wonder how it grows?
I did a quick search and it seems that guitars are made out of it.
Osage Orange is a really durable wood. Not sure if that is the same or not.

Osage is grown in US and is more yellow in color from pictures i saw online. Padauk is from Africa. Very hard wood. My scroll saw blade struggled to cut the 7/8" thick segment for the car. The thinner segments were not so bad.

My models are for show, not for go. They don't roll really well. Pine Derby cars are designed for speed or distance. Guessing weight helps with momentum.

Rounding of edges and sculpting curves are done mostly with hand sanding blocks, a Dremel type tool with a mini drum attachment and occasionally a 5" orbit sander. Milescraft 1622 – Sand-It Multi-Surface Sanding Block. HARDELL Mini Cordless Rotary Tool, 5-Speed and USB Charging Rotary Tool Kit.

I also have a 1" belt sander, an oscillating drum sander, a 4" vertical belt sander and a 12" disc sander that I use depending on the job. I have a small lathe now that I sand the wheels on. I use to do it mostly by hand.

WEN Benchtop Belt and Disc Sander with 1 x 30 in. Belt and 5 in. Sanding Disc.
WEN 6510T 3.5 Amp Oscillating Spindle Sander.
The Delta Model 31-460 is a 4" Belt; 6" Disc Sander
Central Machinery 12'' Direct Drive Bench Top Disk Sander
WEN LA3424 4.5-Amp 12-Inch by 18-Inch 5-Speed Benchtop Wood Lathe.

Starting to take shape.... She is close to being complete. I need to install custom made fender flares, since the designer neglect to include them in his plans. I will also round under the bottom of the sides to make the model more exact. Tail lights, door handles, and mirrors will be added. I almost forgot, I am making a custom spoiler that will be realistic.

Well I could't sleep well cause I have a medical procedure this morning -so I installed the spoiler, tail lights and tag in th rear of the car. I will post picture when I make it back. All that is left are the fender flares, mirrors, door handles and finish sanding the tires.

Got the wheels done and also the fender flares. I think the mirrors are going to be the last step before clear coat.
