It should be plenty strong enough. I used the same steel as on the frame and broke it to the same dimensions then build a four sided box and bolted to the rear plate on the old frame in the existing 12 places, scab plated it on the sides and attached it to the bed, then made and put the reinforcement in place for the pintle hook. I drilled 109 holes in just the box section alone and used grade 8 bolts throughout from 1/2" to 3/4". I am over drilling holes for awhile! I wish I had taken more pics of the progress.
