Need help choosing a truck model

I'm new to all the different types of military trucks out there and to be honest have no clue as to what type of truck I'm looking for. I guess you could say that I'm being picky with what I'm looking for but.....

The motor definelty has to be a multi-fuel engine.

I'd like to put the truck on 46's or 53's depending on if I bob the truck and want to put a lift in it.

The truck has to be a manual trans only because I hate autos lol.

Could anyone help give me some insight on these trucks and answer my noob questions hahaha


Which motors are the best multifuel and what should I look out for?

Which trucks come on the larger tires or super singles from the start and what sizes are they?

Also how big of a tire could i use if I keep it in the 6x6 form?

How much MONEY do you wish to spend?
Deuces are cheaper then 5 tons. 5 ton multi's are getting scarce, so the price is higher.

I'm not to sure what I'd want to spend but I'd probably get a deuce because I don't haul anything it will just be my off road vehicle

Just curious what are they going for

Yes the 5 tons come with a bigger motor-but they are also a bigger truck.
As far as prices- check the classifieds, GL, Craigslist, Ebay. They will give you a good idea. Just remember, bigger the truck, bigger the hole in the wallet......:mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:

You're on the right track, so you don't really need any help. Just get yourself the M35A2 and you're set. Be sure to check it out first, make sure there are no leaks and the brakes are in top notch condition. Get a whistler turbo, and you can save your money for those very expensive tires later, provided you bought quality.

Under your situation, I would consider buying from a private seller, so you can talk to him about the issues, and test drive after reading the operators manual, running a full fluid check, and giving a good visual underneath for leaks at the engine, tranny, and wheels.

Cost of the M35A2 will be between $4K and $8K, depending on paint, condition, winch, heater, cover, and overall condition. Anything less than $4K today is going to take some serious work and cost you a lot more than you bargained for, unless you're lucky enought to find someone who has to sell due to a move or something extreme.

Ok, there is one person in my town with a deuce I'm gonna have to nab him one day when I see him.

I was looking at gov auctions. I'm very mechanically inclined its just that I don't know what to look for in these. My other truck is mint lol a lot of engine work and fun stuff

No, the 5tons run just like deuces. You can get tractors, cargo beds, wreckers, and box trucks. a 5ton can run the big 53's (16.00x20) 6x6 stock but that will kill your power. The multifuel 5tons come with 11.00x20 tires stock. You wont see any multifuel 5tons coming out of Gov. surplus on anything bigger.

The 11 are 43 I think?

I believe you that the trucks would be slow but how slow are we talking. I don't want a turtle but if I'm going to do all this work I'd like a big one of a kind truck

It wont be slow per-say, actually you'll gain a little top speed but it will take along time to get to top speed and the instant you hit an incline you'll know it.

If 11's are 43" and you go to 53's then thats like taking a jeep on stock tires and going straight to 37's without re-gearing.

If you know how to split shift, you may be able to get up to speed with out backing up traffic to bad.

I saw that the m809 has the marine corps mods, I love the fact that it comes with lockers. Did they do any with a different model that has a multi engine in 5 ton

the M809 is a series of trucks. (M813 ,M818, M816, etc). They have the Cummins 250 engines

The older M39 series had the multifuel (m51, M52, M54, etc). Getting harder to find.

Let me ask this. You have been here since 2010. How much time have you spent here reading about the various trucks?

Not that it matters, but how old are you?

These trucks where designed 50 years ago to be heavy and slow. They are not hotrods.

With enough money and time, you can make them faster. The problem is stopping. A few people have spent big bucks coming up with much better braking systems.

You posts say to me that you want an unsual truck, that will drive just like the new Big Three trucks that will go 80+mph and stop on a dime. Am I read that right?

I've been a member since 2010 And I just made my first post today and first time reading today as well.

Yes I am looking for an unusual truck.

My 24v cummins I have now is just about fully built and will beat 90% of what's driving on the roads. I'm kind of an extremist when it comes to things.

Money isn't really a problem and I'm 20.

Lol like I said before I'm a noob at military trucks not at working on vehicles

Fully Built and will beat 90% of whats driving today is one **** of a claim. I have seen some great feats of engineering that truly impressed me and a Cummins powered Dodge pickup was not on the list.
