Remember these 500 gallon water tanks are typically not baffled so we
hen the load starts to surge side to side as when turning a corner at speed ypu are at risk of rolling the truck mover. This is a common problem with fire departments that make a deuce into a brush truck and then overload it with 1000+ gallons of water and ride through the woods with it sloshing around.

Correct, that's why I'm only driving with them completely empty or completely full. We've been hauling water for 25 years now. Definitely ssloshes when you're not totally full.

What ever the sise tank fill it completely up since it has no baffles or you could mess up quick offroad !

  • 7.5" is one baffle ball per 2 gallons of total tank capacity

Can't see the actual detail of the cut-down job but I dig the looks with the cargo bed and the wheelwell cut outs from the van box. Unique and looks more stylish than the regular bed. Is it open in the back or did they redneck a tail gate? By the sounds of it you have done some much needed maintenance, very good. Yes, pull the front drums....in fact, ideally, you'd get eyes on all six brake cylinders, hard and soft lines of your single circuit brake system. You will be heavy when full, so a brake line busting should not be part of your experience! I highly recommend a remote brake fluid reservoir ($35 in parts when you get it from places such as Summit or even locally). Two advantages: Unlike with the reservoir under the floor, you will SEE when brake fluid leaks because the reservoir level drops and if the leak is small, the reservoir will keep the master cylinder full until you come to a stop (or maybe even until you get home).
I hope she'll be good to you on those water hauls! Put her to work!
Finally got all my brakes done, and a new bed floor put in it, and one water tank in it. Truck did great, didn't have tank secured well enough, slid over about a foot and nearly broke the valve! Anyways, I secured the tank better now with cleats on the floor against the tank. Now I'm on to changing all of my cracked coolant hoses. Unfortunately, nobody seems to have the entire set in stock, so I ordered an upper and lower, and I'll just have to get some straight hose to make all the little ones.

Looking good! That plywood deck would rot away hereabouts in a year or so, but I guess in AZ with the dryness it will last for a long time. You are not overloading her with that single tank. Glad to see that she starts to earn her keep!

Not overloaded at all with just the single tank, in fact cant really even tell it's there, except around corners, lol.
