i picked up an '87 M998 ($9K) . I'm going to assume its the "Basic" and not an A1. I would also like to find out and deployment history or service history. Also curious about the fuel tank size as I did not pay attention when I filled it up. i'm looking for some parts too. newer nicer front seats. If anyone can help that would be awesome.

Welcome!

When you are able post some pics of it. Look for any markings on the front and rear corners that may be decipherable as a former unit.
Ive seen multiple layers showing different units.
USMC trucks sometimes have a unit code on the rocker panels and tailgate.

Fuel tanks are 25 gallons

Welcome to Steel Soldiers! If this is a first HMMWV the first thing you want to do is download a copy of TM 9 2320-280-10. This manual is the basic operators manual and has all the information in it about the trucks and capacities. There's also a wealth of other information that you need to know in it. It's available here in the post labeled "If you need it it's here" above.

If your mechanical and will be doing your own maintenance you'll want to download the other manuals in the maintenance series. They probably list 98% of everything you'll need to keep the beast going. The rest you can find here on Steel Soldiers.
