New Mdl CD-10516 key question

I'm sure this has been posted already but i havent found much on it.

I recently bought a 1985 Mdl CD-10516 from government liquidation. I know that most of the M series keys are universal. I haven't found much on the mdl CDs. i was wondering if it is the same key for the CD series as the M series. Or is it also considered part of the of the M series because of the "Mdl"

Another question is when towing the 4x4 CUCVs is it enough to put the transfer case in neutral or should the drive shaft be disconnected to be safe ? Any insight would be helpful thank you

Same key I believe.
Always better off pulling the drive shafts.

Per the manual you can flat tow with trans and TC in neutral up to 50 miles safely. That said, it'd be better to take the 10 minutes and pull the DS.

What's the difference between it and a 1009? Just curious and couldn't find anything.

CD10516 is the M1009. All of the CUCV family of vehicles use the same key. Most of the bigger M series don't use keys. FYI the blank is a B49 and the code is 73Y2. If you need one, PM me.

Good luck with the new truck.

Take a rag to stiff into the back of the transfer case and some zip ties to fasten a heavy plastic bag around the tail piece to keep the rag in place and help prevent ATF leaks on the move.

I decided on just spending the extra 20 bucks and rent car trailer from uhaul. Hopefully going down thurs to get it hopefully when I throw in some batteries it'll start up
