So I have always wanted a Deuce with that whistling turbo but I have come across a 72 AM General non-turbo that came off a local decommissioned AFB. Kind of cool that it is a local truck and served right here in Middle TN. I have been doing some reading on non-turbo models and it doesn't seem like a big deal about not having a turbo other than the whistle and maybe pulling the hills of TN. Oh, and the black smoke. Truck looks to be in excellent condition and original. White multi-fuel. I guess I could always put a turbo on if I wanted. Been reading about that too. Anyway, looking forward to gaining knowledge in this forum.

How do y'all feel about the non-turbo trucks?

Off the top, it sounds like a heck of a deal - that it is there in the state you live in. Dang shame that we keep closing military bases. "They call it "realignment" and branches of the service get combined onto one patch of dirt. Things like Andrews AFB became Joint Base Andrews. Seems like a lot of "gum service" to me and lots of money spent to move things around. Similar to a shell game...

On a happier note: I ride my trucks around town. I don't have mountains like you do over in Tennessee, but I am not in a hurry when I go places. So long as you aren't going to the races - I think you will be perfectly happy with your normally aspirated Deuce.

I personally love the whistler turbo. More for sound than anything because the reading that I have done says it wasn't to improve horsepower. More like making the Feds at the EPA a little happier... You could definitely add a turbo and spend the time to learn how to tune it for more horses. My best guess is that you will be happy without it...

BE SURE to click on the link for Technical Manuals. Get the motor book and the set of books for the truck itself. Doesn't cost you a dime. Well okay, you did have to become a member for that access but it is extremely reasonable. The "-10" is the operators guide. Give it a look. Helps you know about warnings and buzzers, draining air tanks so they don't freeze up in the winter, safe operation... Worth every minute and YES they are INCREDIBLY DRY and REALLY BORING. Still, even as reading room material they those TM's will eventually become useful when you invest the time.

Welcome, from north Alabama! You came to the right place for information on MVs. As Mullaney said, the turbo wasn't added to gain power. It is more to clean up the smoke. My 72 Deuce has a "C" turbo. I like the sound, but I have heard that some folks get tired of it.

Went to check out the truck today. Really nice and well taken care of. Started right up cold. It wasn't that cold in TN today. The truck has no heater. The whole drivers side under the hood is empty. Not sure if that is a big deal. Is it? Truck has bows, tarp, bed is in excellent shape as are troop seats. It has original removable aluminum steps going into the bed. New head gaskets and new injection pump. A M105 trailer with bows and tarp go with it and are in excellent shape. Pioneer tools are on the truck and a jerry can on the drivers step. What about no heater?

Sounds like a good truck. I would take a good look at the brakes. Any leaks around the wheel cylinders, rubber hoses, master cylinder or air pack? Does it build and hold air pressure? The heater, IMO, isn't a big deal. My truck has one, and it does work, but the amount of heat is negligible. What small amount makes it into the cab, pretty much leaks back out. The cabs on these trucks are known for leaking wind and rain. If it's that important to you, there is a NOS heater for sale in the classifieds section of this website. Hope this helps.

Thanks. I tried to check everything and my amateur eyes didn't see anything. I didn't think the heater would be to big of a deal.

The owner took my son and I for a ride and then pulled over and told me to get behind the wheel. I did and had a blast. A little grinding on second. Brakes felt good and firm. I watched all the gauges and they work. Air pressure was 120psi. Oil pressure good. Temp good. Generator good. He a really nice guy and very honest.

I'm having a hard time saying no. The price is fair.

That is great news! Being able to get into the truck, crank it up and drive makes it SO much nicer. Getting some seat time and enjoying it as you fix any small things that pop up will definitely make ownership so much sweeter!

Turbo vs non turbo , the sound “cool factor”is the only thing thats missing from a non turbo truck .
i run mine with a load and happy with it . One less componant to worry about replacing is one way to look at it also.
if it was two trucks side by side one turbo ed and one non , for me i would have went with turbo to cut down on the smog behind you when climbing a hill or loaded .
my truck smokes like a tractor at the county fair on sled pull night !
