AS far as cable lube goes, your cable moves inside on itself, metal on metal, a DRY cable will NOT last long, become VERY DANGROUS because of internal damage, a fiber core is even worse as it will pick up water and RUST from the inside out, proper cable care is to keep it well lubed and the outside wiped down, remember cable does not like to be NEGLECTED, it WILL HURT YOU or somebody else. Winching is DANGROUS just in the act of winching, no reason to make it WORSE then it is.
