Going out, we had time constraints, so it was a marathon straight-through. I got back from California at 1:30am tuesday (due to a delayed flight) and Sam/Pawnshop picked me up at 6am! We switched off on driving and sleeping, with occasional stops for food/fuel/stretching. We arrived at Dave's in Oregon around 7:30pm local time (9:30 Tx time) wednesday, so about 33 hours of driving.
Coming back, we planned to leave sunday and take our time to stop and look at stuff, but we were having such a good time, we didn't leave until almost 1pm tuesday.
We helped move vehicles after the show sunday (Dave had three there) and did other stuff, so figured we would go monday. I got to drive Dave's Scout back to his house (around 25 miles. Woohoo!), after which we moved his V100, so I finally got to ride in the turret of one.
Then Dave happened to mention that the Spruce Goose was in an air museum pretty close by, so we went there monday instead.
We did more stopping on the return trip, and slept short nights in motels, arrived home around 2am friday. We would have spent more time on the trip, but Sam had to work friday at 9am (poor fellow). Me being a recent retiree, I spent much of friday sittin' and snoozin'...
For the trip, we borrowed Sam's girlfriend's car for fuel mileage, a diesel VW station wagon. We did 4857 miles total, fuel averaged out at 38.6 mpg.
I love cross country trips because you see so much. But my 50+ year old body has a bit of trouble keeping up when my 25 year old brain plans things.
Would I do it again tomorrow? Yep!
As promised, more pics attached.
Cheers
