Newbie trying to find vin info on my new truck

Hi All

I just recovered my first M35A2 from GL. I am having trouble trying to figure out what numbers are my correct vin so I can fill out My sf-97 form. I looked on both frame rails and found some random numbers on the drivers side but I can not read them. My Data plate has the following info on it:

-Make: Kaiser jeep corp
-Fed# : 2320-077-1617
-vin # : 4H-3227
- this number had no designation : 0125-18578

Any help on deciphering my vin for the SF-97 would be greatly appreciated.

Negative.

Your vin/serial number is 012518578. Your registration number (which has no direct civilian equivalent and is not necessary for titling) is 4H3227. The NSN is 2320-00-077-1617 which makes this a with winch deuce. Yours must be made before 1971 since is uses the FSC (without the 00) versus the post 1971 NSN (with the 00).

Yes. Use the serial # as your VIN.. The "reggie #" is used only in the military..

Trust what CARNAC says and use the vin/serial number. He is "Da man" when it comes to vin info!!

Greetings:

I am the proud owner of a recently purchased M46A2C (long frame deuce), with a five ton cargo bed attached and a knuckle boom crane thrown in for good measure. Here is the data plate (attached photo):

The vehicle number (VIN) is: 04J68669

There is also a unit number (I believe) in faded paint on the side: WXERAAD57001

There is also a San Juan County, NM ID riveted in the drivers side cab (pic attached).

I would be very grateful for any information you might have to pin down the history of this truck, as she will be going through a fairly thorough restoration this summer/fall. I’ll also attach a pic of the truck. Many thanks in advance, and please let me know if I can provide more info.

04J-68669 is the reg number…read the first post. Contract number is for that batch of vehicles made on that contract.

WXERAA is a UIC (unit identification code). Do a google search. I found a listing but it was a long list and I couldnt do a find on my tablet.

Sir, thank you! That is exactly the information I was looking for! I had been googling the UIC, but was using the whole thing, not the extract that you indicated. So yes, it’s a simple google search now. 16th Engineer Brigade, Ohio NG.

Earlier vehicles had squadron/battalion/flight numbers on them, but later ones had the UIC. Someone correct me if I’m reading this wrong.

Googling WYT5AA brought me to a July 2020 US Army Corps of Engineers document that has some UICs and tells what they are. WYT5AA's unit name as of 2020 is 316 TM (MIL MAIL TERM), which is consistent with the 316 AG marked on the bumper. Unit type is MTOE. Googling 316 AG (again) shows a vetfriends search term for 316 AG CO POSTAL - FT TOTTEN, NY. Fort Totten is located in Queens.

So my M35A3 was an Army Reserve mail truck

Let me be clear: I am NOT the smartest guy in the room, nor will I ever be. I figure I’m clawing through about 1/2 of one percent of what I need to know at this point.
