Newly purchased M923A2 advice

Hi, I purchased my first MV a couple weeks ago and have been absolutely loving it. The whole family and friends have been having a blast in it. It’s a 1990 Harsco BMY M923A2, it had 1400 miles on it when I bought it and I’ve already got it over 1900. I would like to purchase a few parts for it right away and thought I would ask around here on who the recommended vendor would be for these parts. The first one is a hard top, I see there are both fiberglass and military NOS steel options, any advice on those? Second I would like to get the back canvas with the bows, my truck has the green camo paint so I would like to match that and am curious if the sides can be rolled up like curtains. I’m also having an issue with my alternator overcharging the batteries, it’s outputting 36v so it’s been disconnected. I hear there is a retro fit upgrade to a more modern alternator, I also hear there is an adjustment screw in the voltage regulator but I’m not sure if that was just a joke. I would also like to get a ladder to help people load into the back. Thanks for taking the time to read this and pointing me in the right direction.

Welcome to the site and the hobby! The M939 series trucks are fun and very useful. There are lots of guys on here who will be happy to help.
Re: hard tops, I’d say whatever you can get your hands on, though of course fiberglass won’t rust. As for your alternator and wanting an upgrade to something civillian, I think fellow member 74M35A2 at least used to sell a kit.

Hi and Welcome to the Outfit!

I purchased an alternator for my M936 from @74M35A2 . Easy install and great service for the roughly two years that I have had it and still working today! I stumbled onto a hard top for my truck on FaceCrook marketplace, so that is an possibility too. It might be worth posting a "Parts Wanted" listing for Bows and a Tarp here on SteelSoldiers. I found mine that way and ended up meeting the seller about half way between my place and his...

Be sure to gather up copies of the Technical Manuals (TM's) for your truck. There is everything from the "operators manual" (the -10) to parts books to maintenance books with flowcharts for troubleshooting.

There is another useful thread here that has a downloadable spreadsheet for parts. Assuming that you have a Cummins NHC250, you may want to have part numbers for fuel, air and oil filters. Those can be purchased and at NAPA or O'Reilly's and other local purveyors of parts. Called the Quick Reference, this one is really useful to have on your mobile device.

All good stuff from Mullaney, as usual! Just in case the OP doesn’t know, his A2 should have the 8.3L 6CTA motor in it, and is referenced under the M939A2 series. I believe all the A2 truck specific parts are at the bottom of the same spread sheet.
