UPDATE: For the past two days, I've been on the phone with several insurance agents here in Texas, most were simply ignorant of what I was even talking about, insofar as trying to get insurance on my Deuce. I confirm here what TexAndy posted in that Progressive will not insure a military vehicle, unless you go commercial and it is for parade use only. It sounded mickey mouse to me so I called Falcon insurance (see previous posts this thread). Within a span of about 4 hours, I had liability coverage on my deuce and an e mailed insurance card to me. The agent was friendly, knew exactly what my truck was, and the insurance is commercial liability coverage for personal use. NOT just for parades, etc; if I want to haul my 4 wheeler, firewood, whatever, I'm covered. And the best part.....$285.00 for a YEAR. Many thanks to Tex Andy and Mkcoen for steering me in their direction.

Reminds me of a joke...

"Hey I got insurance on my deuce"

'Did you get Falcon'

"No, I got a good deal"

:lost: I don't get it either:!:
This reminds me of the old line..... "If you have to explain it, it ain't funny:cry:"

However, the Price for the insurance mentioned above seems a good one with good coverage.

Do you have a CONTACT NUIMBER and NAME for this agent:?: We need to encourage him with some additional policies:idea:

Sadly, Falcon won't write in other states. Does anybody know of another "Falcon" that will write a commercial liability policy for personal use in Maryland? Falcon's policy sounds like just what I need. Gulfway's is too restrictive. They won't let me do anything with my truck other than drive in parades, and occasionally go on a trip to smell the air.

The actual ins company is Victoria Insurance (Falcon is just an independent agent) so you might call them directly to see if they sell in Maryland. Their customer service number is 1-800-888-8424. If they do sell there they should be able to direct you to a local agent.

Barring that just find an independent agent. They should be able to look across several different companies to try and locate something for you. My policy with Victoria is a commercial vehicle policy and they know exactly what I'm driving so no surprises down the road if I have an accident.

Thanks I'll give them a call and report back. I am hoping to find someone that understands what we like to do with these trucks... and doesn't consider it so risky that they need an arm and a leg for the premium.

I just called Victoria and they said they would NOT insure the Deuce. They gave no reason just they would not. What do you guys in TX tell them to get them to insure yours?

I had good luck with Falcon too:

Ask for Gordon, tell him you saw the posts on SteelSoldiers. I just set up a full commercial liability only policy and the price is very reasonable, about $500/year.

When I called 18 months ago, the girl could't figure out how to write up a policy on my tagged Farm Vehicle. Even after advising her this was a military vet itself, she advised that they didn't have an application. I too advised that they cover all my insurance needs and they should be able to articulate a way to cover this vehicle as well. PROGRESSIVE found a way to get me full coverage with a radius of 500 miles from the valley for about as much per year. I was just thinking about going back to USAA to inquire whether they now would be able to cover the rest of the motor pool.
Think I'll drop a dime tomorrow afternoon........

Thought I'd reserect an old thread. Just yesterday I got insurance on my m35a3 through state farm for 188.97/6 mths. USAA was offering me insurance for 690.00/year and after finding out they go through progressive it was a definite no go for me.

I also went through USAA. I have my deuce tagged as a historic vehicle. USAA said they don't handle classic vehicles but they insure through Classic Auto and gave me their number. The insurance for my deuce through Classic Auto as a historic vehicle is $59 p/year.

December 23rd, 2009.

In Texas try Nationwide Mutual- Colonial Insurance for the M35A2. My M35A2 is insured through them as a private truck, no restrictions on use, and it costs less then my wife's 2006 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. They also insure my S404.114 Unimog, ditto. I do believe they will cover these trucks in other states, because sooner or later I am gonna be moving and then we will see what happens. My trucks are daily runners, I think the deuce has racked up about 9000+ miles since January 2008, more last year then this year as untill a coupla months ago she had a leaking rear main engine oil seal, which put her on limited duty. The Unimog is such a slow runner it is more of a local use truck....

NB: They do know what an M35A2 is, i provided them photos and specifications on same.....

Good Luck, merry Christmas and let's all hope 2010 is a better year then 2009 was!

Cheers,

Kyle F. McGrogan:-D

I had Oregon truck plates for the first year on my deuce and it was $532 a year for license and about $90 a month for $1,000,000 in coverage from Progressive.

I just switched to Special Interest plate, $81 one time fee, and Safeco insured me for $84 per year.

I read the policy carefully. I cannot do ANY commercial hauling, but there is no limit on how far or how often I can drive it, as long as it is not a Daily Driver.

I have too many toys for any one of them to be driven daily :-D

I wish I could get SI plates for mine...but it's too new! Must be 25 years old (IIRC), which means 3 more years of commercial truck plates. :(

Oh well...I can haul what I want with those plates on it. :)
