The direct Drive is on the left and the smaller Gear Reduction is on the right.

What does the bracket look like? Straight? Curved?

More that likely they changed the starter and didn't get a new bracket.

The only way to know for sure if the starter needs any shims is to pull the flywheel cover and check the spacing between the bendix and the flywheel. This is also covered in the above links and the Tech Manuals.

Warthog, the bracket is bent(45 degrees or so). My starter is a gear reduction because it looks like the one on the right with the exterior bolts on it. I'll have to get another bracket when I put starter back in. Thanks

Warthog- GM changed the part that goes with #10456116. It now lists some sort of brake control part instead of a solenoid. I'll look on the site some more. If you find something let me know and I will do the same.Thanks
