No shortage of M998s for GP/IP

Hello,

I've read lot's of posts about how GP/IP is going to run out of trucks to sell. I really don't think that's the case. I say that because Aug 8'th the Gov actually extended the contract with IP to keep on selling. So, that would tell me one of two things (1) something new is about to come or (2) more 998s to come.

Check this out and let me know what you think: http://m.government-fleet.com/news/263620/dept-of-defense-extends-contract-with-ironplanet

You know that doesn't mean trucks right? It means just what it says, rolling stock. Commercial Venture 4-Rolling Stock (CV4-R) Contract

They could only have three more trucks to sell but 3,773 old beat up Chrysler K cars left to dump.

I'm in for a K car...
My grandfather had a k car (can't believe I'm saying that out loud), it was a turd new & I still have nightmares about riding in it. Main one is being seen in it :)

Then again I might buy 5-20 of them, park them on the yard & really piss off the neighbors !!!

You might be right but I call it a tactic. I think all this is a way for IP/GP to get more money out of the trucks. Create this fake sense of low supply so people are willing to bid more. I could be wrong, I hope I'm not wrong but I feel that we have more to come.

Anyway, I just wanted to share an article in case it was helpful.

They have raised all the opening bids which have pushed me and I'm sure many others out of the bidding due to costs going up. I see many opening bids to be at or near retail prices for many of these trucks/trailers. JMO

When they're starting parts trucks out for more than they were starting runners out for 6 months ago it's no wonder they're getting so many "auction unsuccessful" lots. Four of the last 7 I had on my watch list didn't sell. I don't really care how many more they have to list if they think they're worth more than scrap when half the good stuff has already been stripped off.

I don't think it's IP/GP creating the rumor that trucks are going to be ending soon. I hear that rumor here and from people who are trying to sell their IP $8,500 M998 for $25,000 as soon as they get it home.

That and a few of the guys who jacked up the price of their 5-tons they were selling when GP wouldn't sell them for a few months.

Never thought I'd say that I miss the ol' GL Days; when you could get a running 5 ton for $1295.00.

This topic seems to creep up every month or two....I get a kick out of all the reasons why prices go up, down, pulled, canceled....it's a business guys, as I have said every time this topic comes up. It's not here so we can get $1200 HMMWV's. While that would be nice, it's not going to happen. GP has no real problem selling the trucks.
AFAIC, the M1123 at 25k is a good buy, has everything a lot of folks are trying to add to these trucks, AC, 4spd trans etc...
just my .02cents
im in no hurry....I, like the rest, won't pay some rediculous price for any of these trucks. If enough auctions stagnate and don't sell, prices will come down to meet market demand....

Reminds me of a line from Kevin Nealon in the movie Joe Dirt. "We're running a business, not a charity. Maybe if UNICEF gets into the auction business, you can buy a truck for $1200, but it ain't gonna be a humvee"

Ha! That would be the best $25 or $30 you ever spent!
A few years back I built a temporary "fence" out of m101's.
I had close to 40 of them. I wished I would have taken some pics.
This was over an issue with a truck I had in my back yard, out of sight & on an improved surface.
Nosey neighbor kept complaining, couldn't see it but knew it was back there.
City has an ordnance on "junk vehicles" i.e. Not tagged or inspected BUT nothing on trailers.
So long story short I bought as many as I could & used them for a fence.
It was pretty funny, city even said that neighbor should have just kept his mouth shut.
