Thanks! Your pics just answered my Q: they did retain the original gasser dash panel even on "late" rebuilds!
Also interesting, that yours was converted from M109 shop van into the M35 (A2) cargo version!

G, I believe the data tag that was stamped following the repower may have been one that was simply close at hand. The truck remains a M109 to this day.

1958 M274 - It would be really cool to have a truck that was the first in some category, first year of multifuel. I wonder if that is correct? Is there any way to tell if it is a converted gasser of if it came with the multifuel?

Good news. I put a good battery pack in her and she fired right up and ran very strong and pulls solid.

I have bought the last three trucks not knowing if they ran or not and all of them did.

My main problem now is that I have a dozen trucks and only one good battery pack!

The little Study does still have the electric horn and no air horns.

Original gassers will have fenders that are different than multifuel trucks and one of the engine mounts will be bolted in (can't remember which one). The bed was different also on the converted gasser I had.

Oooof! That is one wicked truck Pete. If only I could find one like that with an original data plate! FWIW, the right rear engine mount (behind right shock mount) will be bolted in place on gasser conversions.

Nice truck. I had seen something about the inner fenders wells before and forgotten it. That is a good way to tell. I will have to look at my trucks closer to see. I have two old Reos and the Study. I looked at the Study data plate yesterday and it had the M35A on it. The 1 had been stamped over with a 2 by hand.

One of the Reos I know just says M35, no A nothing.

The other Reo I haven't looked at much yet, but I will. It may be that none of mine are converted gassers.

I just wish they would have converted the front axle to an air shifter before they let go of it!

Most Ol" drivers just like most i know today at the Armory here, that i spend alot of time at, just do not know much if anything about there trucks,the guy u speak of may very well have been a GMC driver and had some multies talked about around him, and walla Mine is a multi too, actually at an Air show recently i had the exact same thing happen, The guy drove the GMC's after I showed him pics and said although there were multis and U may have driven some the autos were these and they were gassers, He said yea thats what I drove but they were autos with multies...oh well...recemtly I was in a base, last week and the one driver with us said, hey look at those Ol" double clutchers,...i said actually they are automatics, and the newest of the m series 5 tons, Notice the big hood, and the style of the top of the hood is the same as all the M series, he looked at me all strange...U sure it looks like an Ol" double cluther...O well..I rest my case, ...randy

Remember just because it has gasser fenders doesn't mean it was origionally a gasser. Tony has a 1971 that has the gasser fenders. I have a NOS set of the fenders that had a 1968 depot inventory tag on them. I am just guessing that they kept using up what they had on the shelves which prolly took several years after the multi switch.

I guess they could still be converted even if they have the newer style fenders in them too. They could've swapped them out as well when they were upgrading them.

I looked at my other Reo and it is a M109, no A's at all.

None of the three oldies I have have the wider inner fenders, so they may have all been multis from the getgo.

Does anyone have a date as to when they started using A1 and then A2 and then A3?

-A1s started in 62 or 63. I doubt that there are any Reos that came factory with the multi. Check that right rear engine mount on the frame.
