Off Road Lighting

Hello all, my 820 mile recovery of my 923A2 was a success

Now that I have it home, the first mod is going to be more lighting and a backup cam. I'm leaning towards LED since they can be driven 12 or 24 volt and seem to be very efficient and low amperage draw.

I wondered if anyone here has used either the Rigid or Tuff LED lights or lightbars?

I'm leaning toward these, they are quite a bit less than the Rigid products, and I'm not going to run the Baja 1000 or anything

The second set of lights appear to be manufactured by Totron who wholesales to small distributers. I have a few different sets of them and they are great, i just recently set up a vehicle for night scene lighting with 2 42w floods and 1 42w spot on either side of the vehicle and to say they are bright is an understatement. I put a couple of the smaller 18w under the bed of my truck and makes backing up at nice easy as day. Those prices seem very fair and i have been getting/using totron lights for about 2 years and have not been dissappointed and the build quality for being a made in china product is very supprising

I have the trucklite lollipops in the back sides they are pretty bright. I have the trucklite led headlights they are much better than the original halogens especially in high beam. And I have a set of 4600 lumen each fire research scene lights in the front I got them cheap on the bay the light is aimed out and down on a slight angle they are like super fog lights they really light up the ground in front out pretty far.

I have the trucklite lollipops in the back sides they are pretty bright. I have the trucklite led headlights they are much better than the original halogens especially in high beam. And I have a set of 4600 lumen each fire research scene lights in the front I got them cheap on the bay the light is aimed out and down on a slight angle they are like super fog lights they really light up the ground in front out pretty far.

I ended up ordering the 30" Tuff LED Lightbar, we will see how it turns out. Amazon prime is great! If i don't end up liking it I will return it and get something else. I plan on trying to mount the lightbar in the grill like you have your 2 lights mounted Supr. I would like to upgrade to the LED headlights also. Plan on ordering one of the smaller LEDs to mount under the bed in the back for a backup light. I ended up going with the lightbar because it will simplify installation I think, as I only need 1 wire and relay.

I also ordered 2 of the Pyle 720 24-12 converters. Haven't decided whether to run the lights 12 or 24. Any suggestions or reasons for each?

You can wire 2 12v lights in series on a 24 volt system they will work just fine. I was out driving around tonite I used the grill scene lights as my headlights they work a lot better than the military led ones and even though they are flat the beam angles downward and won't blind oncoming cars. I can't do a lightbar on top there are low railroad underpasses that I go thru I have about 3 inches of clearance now with the hoist removed and the exhaust cut down. You can see it in the pics. I measure just shy of 9'7". I have a 1400 lumen led light over my hitch connector as a reverse light it works really well. There are wilmore 30 amp dc converters on the bay for 35 dollars shipped if you want 12v for audio or other gadgets it will fit in the battery box under the seat.

+1 to the IBIS Lightbars. A few weeks ago I got a tour of a MRAP-Cougar which had all the IBIS bars, both on the front and the sides, buy those suckers are pretty bright and reaches out.

Easiest and cheapest is to get some regular off road lights and swap out the bulbs for 24v bulbs and wire them as normal. That's what i did with my off road lights and they work great! The LED's are very nice though..

I'm a big fan of these if you don't mind the DIY approach. When you're building them, add some IR LED's so you can run stealth with NVG's!

I enjoy seeing what everyone is doing for lighting upgrades.
I'm still running Hella E-code H4 lights and am still really, really, happy with both the amount of light put down the road and the pattern...

Superman - I know this is an older post from April 2013. I am a relatively new member with a M923a2. I really like the fire research scene lights you have. You did exactly what I was thinking about doing to my truck. I had a couple of questions if you don't mine answering. !. What is a good price on those lights? 2. are you running them as 24 volt and where did you tap into the electrical? 3. On your reverse light, does that turn on when you shift into reverse, or do you manually turn it on and off prior to reversing?

It's stuff you have to find at a good discount on the bay you don't want to pay retail for the big name stuff. You can get any number of led floods that will work on 24v online. These I have running 24v but you can run 2 identical 12v lights in series on 24v. I use a relay with a fused positive in the battery box for the lights. I put a switch on the dash and I switch the ground that activates the relay coil. I used the proper switch in the transmission thru a relay the same way as the lights so when shifted in reverse (only when engine is running since the switch works on trans fluid pressure) the reverse lights come on just like a regular car.

I put two Truck Lite AUX "Lollipops" on the front of my M925A1 and they obliterate / totally overpower the OE headlights.
I would love to get a pair of Truck Lite LED Headlights but ONLY if I can get them in the heated
variety. If your not near snow unheated will be OK but in snow you will find out quickly
why the heated LED's are Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy better.

Thanks Will - I was doing some search on those lights. Retail is not the way to go. I like your way of wiring. I am not a big fan of cutting into the existing wiring harness. Looks like I am going to have to do some searching ebay or run some other style of LED lights. There are some really good, non-name brand LED Lights out there with good prices. Funny thing I noticed is that many of the American companies are using that same Asian LED parts, but assemble them in the US. Cree LED's are a prime example.

I was thinking you could take the led light out of the lollipop mount they are 7 inch and will fit fine in the headlight bezels. You could piggyback the low beams off the positive that feeds the high-beam foot switch. All that switch does is toggle between low and high beams. Then with headlights on your main headlights would always be on and you could use the foot switch to switch on and off other grill or forward mounted lights.

I have used some of the square LED lights. The work well but are not for long range. They can also leak water into them. I have some on order that I'm going to put on my other truck. But, this time I'm going to put silicone around the edges and on the wires. I'm also going to spray them green. Even when water got inside they still worked but the lens became discolored.

I buy lights from strobesnmore.com they are not too far from me and they have some decent multi-voltage led lights plus they have all the airhorn and pa stuff I put in my cars and they don't give me a hard time about ordering stuff.
