Any news about where we are convoying too this year.
Yes. We have a fantastic Saturday getaway planned for the group.
For those of you who haven't been on the convoy, for the last few years, we have done an official Saturday morning convoy to a local bbq joint about 20 miles away. This grew out of an ad hoc thing that (I think) AMGeneral and Papabear did on their own one year and everyone loved it so we ran with it. The convoy gives attendees who aren't off roading an opportunity to drive their vehicles and participate in the rally and the pictures and video are pretty impressive. Last year we took 39 vehicles on the convoy. Law enforcement provides an escort on both legs of the trip.
But, like everything in life, there's a hiccup. As the convoy grew, the bbq joint just couldn't manage the # of people who were participating. There would still be lots of people waiting in line to order while the first people in line had already finished eating. This created some complaints amongst users (rightfully so) about the amount of time the lunch was taking and obviously this made the entire convoy operation run long. So we've been wanting to fix this ..................................................
Keeping in mind that the entire point of the convoy is to have fun and take a ride with the vehicles-the destination is just the excuse to have the fun.
15.1 miles from Durhamtown is Alexander Stevens State Park. You can see one of the proposed routes and the destination here:

Once we arrive at the State Park, we will be waved past the parking pass booth to our parking area, where prepared lunches of bbq sandwich or jumbo hot dog, (choice of 2 sides ) bake beans ,slaw and chips and a drink. Lunch will be $10 and includes the parking pass. Lunch is still $10 if you're a passenger-we are partnering with Durhamtown to provide this service and that's what they're charging. It's a flat fee. All of that $10 goes to Durhamtown-the rally is not charging anything.
So, we'll take our 15 mile convoy, stop at an area where we can eat lunch that will be ready for all of us, eat, get some pictures and be back on the road.
We have put a lot of work into putting this together to try and eliminate the time and long line issues we had at the former destination, so we really hope everyone likes it.
We're still working out some of the minor details like the route. Many years we've tried to take a different route to and from so people would get some different scenery.
