In going back through this thread, I am not seeing an explanation of what appears to be a really crappy job of paneling the interior right before our trip, so here it is now:

After we cut and fit the wall and ceiling insulation, it was too cold to foam it in place before our trip. One night while my wife and I and the dog were spending the evening in it to try out the cold weather performance of the insulation, one of the ceiling insulation panels fell down on us and spooked the dog. The dog then became very suspicious of ALL the silver insulation, and refused to go in there without barking at it viciously. She is extremely protective of us (mostly my wife), and we think she was trying to protect us from being attacked by the insulation.

We had no time, so I grabbed some thin (and warped) scrap plywood we had laying around, and threw it up to hide the ceiling insulation from the dog temporarily, to get us through this trip.

The dog still wasn't having it, because she could still see the wall insulation, so I grabbed five of our 3/4" plywood sheets and hung them on the walls, which was nice, because it meant that the U-Haul truck had five less sheets of plywood to carry.

At that point, the dog was fine, and we made our trip without incident.

When we get started on it again, we will remove all that stuff, foam all the insulation in place to make it airtight, properly cut and fit the 3/4" plywood for the interior walls and ceiling, glue it and screw it in properly, and then lay down multiple coats of West System marine-grade epoxy to encapsulate it and make it completely waterproof inside, just like we did on the outside...

Wow! Really nice setup. It would be cool to see how you have
the interior fitted too if you have a few pix of that too.

Hello Mullaney!

I attached two pics for you, views from front to back and vise-versa.

The bed situation we just changed, we got rid of the permanent table we built and inserted a temp table and then installed a king bed there which will break down to what you see in the pic.

We gutted this camper and reframed/rebuilt it to what u see, we even mad the aluminum locker doors. We installed solar for the microwave, Keurig and even the wife’s frigging curling iron..(no shit).

The creative part was building the superstructure for the camper undercarriage for lifting it into the truck and then safely being able to lock it down, so the undercarriage does double duty here

Neat!! That is pretty cool - and lifting it off and on is a really good way to be able to use your truck for other things.

Yeah, sometimes girls are that-a-way. They want to have their nice stuff even in the woods.
Heck, at least she wants to go out there with you so if all you had to do was a plug for the curling iron - you done good

Please share with me your observations of this truck- what looked good to you, what didn't look good to you, and what concerns did you have about it? Why did you stop bidding before I did? Did you buy another vehicle instead?

Are you saying that you're shopping for a vehicle to convert into an overland expedition vehicle, or are you saying that you have converted vehicle(s) into overland expedition vehicle(s)? Please elaborate, Dirk.

I would be concerned about the challenges relating to CDL requirements, insurance requirements, and registration / license plate / trip permit requirements.

I would be willing to obtain trip permit(s) as needed. I would probably not be able to register it as a motorhome prior to bringing it home. And without registering it as a motorhome, it would require a CDL to legally operate it on public roads.

I have located a driver with a CDL so that I would be able to have it driven home without committing any crimes.

The insurance requirements are an issue that I have not even begun to figure out yet. Complicating this matter is that it will be coming home as "not a motorhome", and then we will convert it into a motorhome. I'm thinking that a cleaner solution would be for it to actually be a motorhome before even attempting to register and/or insure it, as opposed to registering and/or insuring it as something other than a motorhome, and then trying to get the registration and/or insurance changed over to a motorhome. I am trying to be careful to make statements, instead of asking questions, in order to avoid violating any forum rules regarding this subject...but I am open to any input here...

I am retired, and we would be willing to move to just about any state that facilitates the registration and insurance of this vehicle for our intended purposes.

Yeah, I'm not too worried about it- it could be something as simple as CTIS operator error. I'm sure we'll get it figured out.

Hey sorry it has been a while since I check my messages apparently! In the original auctions myself and 3 friends have purchased a total of 3 trucks. I have not gotten a CDL because I registered mine as an RV. in Idaho. I still plan to get a CDL just to be safe. I have taken the bed off had a 3 point pivot frame built for the box/ habitat mounted on it. I plan on upgrading the cab and still have to do interior fitup into and full bore expedition truck. truck has performed great thus far. I drove it back from Yermo and drove from Seattle to Colorado

Absolutely zero- not so much as a check engine light. We didn't even have a spare tire.

I checked planetary hub temps, tire temps, and diff temps at every fuel stop, and they were all good...
great job on your build!! how did you check your hub temps? have yo considered using your camper rear door as a deck? add temperary supports on the bottom when in use?
