Just to get some of these events on your radar, March 23, Olympic Flight Museum. April 13 will be the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge Luncheon at La Quinta Inn in Tacoma. It starts at 1030, lunch is 17 bucks. If you wanted to come and park your vehicles out front about 1000, the vets would enjoy that. The Friends of Willie and Joe group is usually well represented with WW2 vehicles. May 18 is Armed Forces Day at Ft. Lewis, if some of you are interested, let me know and we could work out the details. June 15th I may have a gig for us in conjuntion with the vintage car club. They are trying to do a 40's theme and are more interested in WW2 vehicles. July 4, Freedom Fest in Centralia. this is an open event and all green or tan iron is welcome. This will include a display, hamburgers, hotdogs, and a parade. Wanted you to get your notes on the calendar. July 13 OFM or Arlington, July 20, Napavine Aaron W's? July 25 - 27 MVPA Convention in Portland. August 16-18 Ft. Stevens OR, this is a joint venture between the Friends of Willie and Joe and the OMVCC. There will be more to come on all of these as they get closer. Several of these are overnighters.

Thanks for the heads up Peter. I will NOT miss the the MVPA Convention this year!! I may have to miss the rally at Aarons to attend due to weekend schedules at work unfortunately. I'll know more when we get closer. I will try and make it to the JBLM Armed Forces Day as well.

I have a registration in for Ft. Lewis AFD, under Friends of Kilroy. I will most likely be doing a WW1 display this year, and will lend a vehicle or two to others for their displays. but could register some of us under my group. Keep me posted if any of you want to do this. We could also get a PNW Steel Soldiers registration if someone would like to spearhead that. I can get the contact info to them. If there is just a handful of us, I would be glad to put them on my registration. There is a little paperwork involved in this one due to security concerns. This should be the 25th year of this event and my 24th as a displayer.

PS I am not sure about Aaron's event. Has he put anything official out yet? I did see in the paper that the local parade and fun weekend is on the schedule for Napavine that weekend.

This seems like the appropriate place for networking :D

I'm a n00b in south Puget sound with an M1009, hoping to learn a bit.

Does anyone know of a cheap (read: inexpensive) paint place?

My OD M1009 is now Foliage (sun faded), and I don't need a super expensive paint job, but being as I'm unemployed at the moment, I don't have a ton of money to dump into it. I could do all the prep work, removing lights and sanding down and whatnot. Or, barring that, know anyone that would be willing to trade for electrical/communications (12V) work?

cheapest way to do it is go to home depot with the 383 or color of your choice paint code. which you can find on here under the Behr paint thread. and pick up a cheap harborfreight gun or go with home depots and blast away!

welcome aboard where at in the puget sound?

I personally use my backyard;-) Seriously though I do. I use a Wagner Power Sprayer with Home Depot Behr Ext Flat paint. They match it perfectly to military paint. If you can afford $80 for a sprayer and $25/gallon, you're golden.

I don't have any air, or a proper booth to do it. :D

Tacoma proper, unfortunately. I miss living in Tumwater.

ETA: Found This

It seems I can just shoot it with a standard 120VAC home spray gun instead of HVLP? Heh.

Yep, I started that thread. You want to see the results up close? I'll try and bring one of my Behr paint trucks to the next rally. I just shot the interior of my M925A1. There are other alternatives out there like the Gillespie Paint from Rapco. However, the paint is way too glossy for a military finish. I've painted over all my Gillespie painted parts with the Behr.

There is one of those for sale down here in SoCal, too bad their lack of an "open" differential making them "not to great" for road use. I really like the looks of those beasts, they remind me of the M26 Pacific Dragon Wagon, another favorite of mine........
