Felix, is your M38A1 a stocker, original, restored, or under restoration? I have enjoyed mine, but it has been neglected the last couple of years due to getting the 1942 running. If you are up to the run, come down for the 4th of July to Centralia. There is a thread under upcoming events, Freedom Fest.

On July 3rd, there is an escorting the wall event from Grand Mound to Elma. Looks like they're lining up at 1430 hrs and departing at 1500 hrs from the I-5 Truck Wash in Grand Mound. Anyone doing this event? I just found out today in church when our Major asked if I was going to be there. I'm pondering taking my 5 ton but I'm still in the process of painting her. Not sure if she'll be ready then.

I emailed the coordinator for this event and this was his reply:
"The Escort is open to everyone. We would be honored to have your group join us in your military trucks and get placed strategically in the line up.."
So if anyone is interested contact the main coordinator or just show up a bit early. I'm working on my 5 ton today so hopefully I can get her done. If not then I may just show up in my civy.

Just a quick question for you guys in Washington state. I tried to go and get my title and plates for my m923s today. While I was in the DOL office, they were trying to charge me for tonnage. I am trying to get collectors plates, and they wanted to charge me almost $600 for one truck. Have any of you guys had to pay tonnage for a personal truck that will never be used for commercial work? Any info would be great. Thanks.

I am in Oregon but I think things are similar as far as the DMV is concerned. My experience here is that different DMV employees have different answers. One gal told me we had to have a CDL because it was over 26,000 lbs. I called BS but she wouldn't budge. I came back 2 hours later with a printout of the law... got a different employee and all went smooth. I registered 2 M923's and had a similar experience the second time as well. I registered both as Special Interest vehicles. About $90 every 2 years and insurance is like $75 per year. If I would have registered it as a commercial vehicle it would have been thousands.

As far as title... did you get the paperwork from Ft. Lewis? Oregon gave me grief because no title ever existed. 6 weeks later I finally had papers from Ft. Lewis that Oregon would accept as release of title.

I'll ask a friend of mine who is a Retired Washington State Trooper if that is correct. I do recall him saying one time that if he had a Pickup he would get charged Tonnage.

Thanks for the info BFGordnance. I have my SF-97 and they didn't have a problem getting me a title. I just didn't want to pay $600 each for plates and a title because some lady at the DOL didn't have any idea what these trucks are.

I had gone to the Lakewood Town Center tag office, they were not familiar with anyone registering MV's as historic I ended up paying for commercial plates with a "non commercial use disclaimer" the lady there said she could not do historic on my Deuce because it weighed to much. I knew better but just chose to take the path of least resistance $700 talk to WSUCougarx or AaronW and see what tag office they use and go there.

Thanks ABN173, I went to the one down on South hill, and while I was there the lady who was attempting to help me had to call Olympia and then spent 15 minutes on the phone arguing with the people down there. It was very frustrating.

You have to pay tonnage on what the truck itself weighs. Not it's gross weight (it's weight and what it can haul.)
It is a one time fee though. Nothing after that for collectors plates.
I paid a couple hundred for my 818.
Just remember, it's only the weight of the truck itself, curb weight.

Thanks Hammer, Chehalis is a little bit of a hike for me, but I will keep that in mind. So after the info you just gave me, $366 for the weight of my truck sounds about right then. The lady at the DOL office Calculated it based on the truck is about 21,000 pounds. It is still a good hit though. Has anyone ever just bought normal plates and one months tonnage, and just ran with it? What kind of trouble would I get in if I got pulled over and didn’t have my tonnage paid for the month?

On the M54 they were going to ding me for tonnage, then I asked the question that I thought there was no tonnage on historic vehicles and the lady said, I think you are right and so no charge for that. But I have also paid one year before on another truck. Take a hard look at the historic license plate language and then have them show you where they have to charge you tonnage on a vintage truck. Homework is cheap.
