Possibly buying a M1008 this week

Don't bust the guy for financing it, many banks make a living financing classic cars and such. Make sure you are able to afford it either way.

I have to be honest with you, I agree with the damage these guys pointed out. That rig looks like it has been through the ringer. I would either walk away or pay an expert to look the frame over. It takes a pretty decent amount of force to bend metal like that. I'm not saying that it is beyond cosmetic but out of all the CUCV's on here, not many have twisted shackles.

I bent the front and rear tie downs already and never damaged the frame. The front tie downs I bent using a Bubba Rope to get pulled out of a mud hole. They both faced in when we got it out of the hole. The front bumper also got damaged at that time. I removed the front bumper and attaching brackets and replaced them. No frame damage. I twisted the back toe ring attachment while towing an M1009 on a towbar. I ran the safety chains through the tow rings and was towing. I had to make a sharp turn around a U turn and the chain got bound in the D ring and pushed the Pintle Hook and the D ring straight down pointing to the ground. These were both on a 1985 M1028 that I had at the time. Same goes. I never knew it happened till I got to my destination. When I got home we torched the bumper off and put another one on no frame damge to the rear of that truck either. So I can see that happening and not damaging the frame at all. A chain binder can do that amount of damage. I don't have pictures. I don't take pictures of every event I had happen or have to fix. I do more now but not as much as some people like. I am OK with that. I also remember making D-ring straight while pulling a vehicle out of the mud. The screw type D rings are much stronger then the OEM cotter pin ones. And the d rings are not made to yank on. They are for tie down, straight or lift straight anyway. Good Luck enjoy your purchase. You are the only one that has to be happy with it. And finance it if you have to. Not everyone is as wealthy as others act.

The bank wants it to be appraised before they give me the loan. I'm going to have him take it to a friend of mines shop to have the frame checked out first. Looked over it again this morning, and drove it again. It tracks straight and true, and there is no visible frame damage. I guess we'll find out in the next few days. How do we go about finding an appraiser?

I had one hit one time while parked. They had to send a special equipment appraiser out to look at it. They gave me $8200. for it and left me keep the truck with a clean title. I fixed it with new parts and sold it to a friend that wanted one cheap. That was 15 years ago. So I am not sure who you would call. I would say the bank is turning you down gently. It will not appraise for that amount.

If he sold it out from under you, it was not worth buying.
As the saying goes, Cash is King.
You can't fault the seller for going with a quick cash sale.
What if the bank appraiser didn't value the truck high enough so TheFiginator's loan fell through?
Keep you head up, you will find another one.

Hate to say it but you probably just dodged a bullet. That truck looked rough and if the owner didn't care about its appearance or functionality with what I saw in the photos, it is not worth owning. Especially if you have to take a note out on it.
