Potential member question

As a new member of this site, I have a question that you all may be the best people to answer. I have always wanted a Deuce as one of those plans that would always be fun, but life and being responsible usually gets in the way. However, I now find myself with the ability and the availably to buy a M35A2 locally. The wealth of information that I have found on this site has been very helpful. My wife and I have come up with many fun things to do that would be the basis of buying a rig like this, a huge toy – granted a toy that could drive through a house if push came to shove. J Anyway, to justify getting something like this(as well as the maintenance, etc) I would like to come up with on functional use that I could use this for. Most of the time will be spent in a primarily urban area, with occasional offroad use when time and opportunity exists. My first thought was of being able to haul another vehicle, but as already mentioned on posts on this site, that would require either a loading dock at each end or ramps that were like 20ft long for the average car to get up there. I already own a good pickup for pulling a trailer and the average trip to Home Depot.

So basically I am one reason away, any suggestions?

Put a front bumper hitch on your pickup and use a tow bar to pull your pick up with your deuce, or
a big enough trailer to put your pickup on.

If you are enthralled with these vehicles as most of us are on this site, then bite. They pull; they generally don't get stuck (if you keep up the momentup); and they are OVER engineered, contrary to present day trucks and automobiles. Don't ask me how I know about the present day vehicles. It ain't true fuel injection, for the most part.

At some point this winter I'm going to do some work in AutoCAD and see if I can't make a set of arched ramps that a car could drive up on.

Other uses would be to go get a load of gravel, mulch, sand, wood, etc. and use the deuce for that. Add a dump bed and it makes life even easier. You could tow a larger trailer with something on it such as a skid loader for leveling your lot so you can build a big garage to store the deuce inside.

The un-average trip to home depot:
When you tell the home depot guy you want 3 pallets of pavers, and he asks "You do know they weigh about 3000 lbs each ?" It's real satisfying to say, "Yeah, just bring em out on the fork lift, and I'll bring my truck around..."

Happy kids:
A giant toy for an 8 year olds birthday party (batteries disconnected, wheels well chocked !!).

Something to talk about:
With the slightly odd neighbor (who has turned out to be pretty cool to know) who drove them in the service.

Quiet satisfaction:
Parking next to the a$$hole at work with the lifted F350 long bed crewcab (that's never been offroad or pulled a trailer)...

and I keep finding more for mine.

You know, I've got a 3/4 ton Dodge and several trailers but there's a certain amount of satisfaction with taking the deuce to home depot to pick up a few 2X4s.

IMO, the deuce is really not very practical to haul other vehicles because of the bed hight.

I have found out that if you have several MVs parked in you're driveway and fire firearms every now and then it tends to keep unwanted guest from prowling around on your propery. :-D

Welcome to the site!!! Glad to see another Arkansan on here :)

My reasoning is because I wanted one. Where are you at in Arkansas? If you would like to come by my house to BS and look at my deuces you are more than welcome to. We can even take a ride in one. You may also want to go to the Petit Jean Rally next month, I'll be there along with a few guys from here. I'll also be displaying my deuce at the Air Show in Jacksonville in Oct.

If you are interested in buying one, I can help you do some previewing at Camp Robinson.

Thanks for all the comments. I am currently in NorthWest Arkansas (Fayetteville). There is one here for sale that I should be able to get for around $6000. After looking at a lot of information here, it looks to be in pretty average shape, not the cheapest I have seen advertised, but I do not have to go get it or have it delivered either.

I should mention as well just in case somebody here would be interested, I am going to be selling my 1976 corvette (I do not have the original engine, and the engine that is in it is broke. I have a 350 to put in, but have lost interest in working on it). As a hobby, that is what I am getting rid of and thinking real hard on getting deuce. If anyone would want to do some trading.

The trucks are so much fun for reasons mentioned in previous posts. You will enjoy it. $6000 for an average condition deuce however seems a bit high. Look through some of the classifieds on this site and see if a member has one for sale that interests you.

I say go take a look at it, get a LOT of pics and post them here. Let us go over them and the members here can give you a good asking price. tell you what they see is wrong, what is good.

You can find a great truck for cheaper and not have to drive it very far and save money.

You could even recruit some fellow Arkansas Members to go take a look at it with you. There a few guys up in your neck of the state.

Cost depends a lot on what options are on the truck.....winch?, hardtop?, tarp and bows?, heater?, springer seat?.

Also miles/hours on vehicle, condition of tires, paint and sheet metal etc.

Make sure the engine/tranny/driveline is in good working order and don't forget the brakes.

If it is a low milage, cherry truck 6K might not be too bad depending on how many are available in your area.....if the market is flooded then you have room to haggle.

That's all I got.
